When a baby arrives, both parents change. But their experiences are different , emotionally, physically and hormonally.

What the birthing parent goes through is postpartum:

Hormonal collapse + rebuild
Brain restructuring
Physical healing
Breastfeeding demands
Organ and nutrient shifts
What the non-birthing parent goes through is real, too — but it’s not postpartum depression. It might look like:

Hormonal shifts (yes, testosterone drops)
Identity confusion
Birth-related anxiety
Pressure to hold it all together
Disconnection or overwhelm
Calling both of these “postpartum depression” creates problems:
✖️ Mislabels what each parent needs
✖️ Waters down maternal medical care
✖️ Misdirects support

💡 In couples therapy, we name these differences so both partners can get the right kind of help.

✅ Postpartum depression (birthing parent)
✅ Paternal perinatal mental health (non-birthing parent)
✅ Relationship support for the transition into parenthood

Different journeys.
Shared season.
Both deserve support.

You can breastfeed anywhere at the Minnesota State Fair! Sometimes it’s helpful to have a distraction-free space for your little one. We have you covered! The TPT Nursing Nest presented by MN WIC is on the southwest corner of Lee Ave. & Underwood St. There are private tents for parents to feed or change their babies during their busy visits to the fair. https://www.mnstatefair.org/faq/amenities/
