Kidney Health is a must!
Check out these simple lifestyle changes provided by our Functional Medicine Nutritional Counselor, Amie Guevara.
Thought about your Kidneys lately?
You've got two of these bean-shaped organs & they have a lot of important jobs!
Well, first of all, they are in charge of producing your urine by filtering organic & inorganic things in your blood. They also recycle a lot of the water & sugar back into your system. These guys are also trying to constantly balance out your system's electrolytes ~ salts & minerals. They even play a huge role in your blood pressure.
We tend to take these organs for granted & kidney disease is no joke. When kidneys fail, dialysis is in your future...
How can you be kind to your beans? Here are some very simple & easy lifestyle changes that will make the world of difference!
- Drink Water! They need it to do their job. Half of your body weight in ounces is what you should be drinking in water daily.
- Don't Hold Your P*e! Go when you feel the urge & keep going about 3 seconds after, pushing out ALL that urine from the bladder to prevent infections.
- Reduce Your Sugar Intake! Yep, you guessed it. Good ol' sugar causes inflammation everywhere, including those kidneys. When they have too much to process, they get overwhelmed.
- Lemons! Add fresh squeezed lemons to your water to help prevent kidney stones. (1/2 cup lemon juice daily will make the kidneys smile)
- Take Your Vitamins! All the B Vitamins, along with Magnesium can help reduce oxalate to keep stones from forming in those kidneys
- Alkaline it! Assist the kidneys by adding more celery, cucumber, green apple & lemon to your daily intake. These foods can help with alkalinity in the system & make the balancing act much easier.
- Reduce Blood Pressure! Add in green foods, garlic, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, CoQ10, Omega-3 Fish Oil & Magnesium to help assist with blood pressure regulation.
