It was a wonderful, crisp fall day on September 27, 1982, in Boston, Massachusetts when Ashley was born at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, not a half mile from Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. No more beautiful baby has been born besides our Lord Jesus Christ. She had difficulty learning to walk. A trait she lived with all her life.

Ashley loved children, dogs, cats and other animal life. Some animal names she first learned in Chinese as we moved to Beijing, China when she was three years of age. She also enjoyed wild colors and clothing.

She enjoyed movies and literature and had an impressive vocabulary, though she was timid in social situations. She respected others and was a very good listener. She endured the difficulties of her life with little complaint.

Upon leaving Beijing we moved to Hong Kong where she lived until she was fifteen years of age. This is where she learned to ride horses and stay away from monkeys, banana spiders and giant centipedes.

In Hong Kong Ashley put her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized by the Anglican Bishop of Hong Kong with her sister, Heather. She enjoyed the youth group in the Shatin Anglican Church.

Ashley is a 2001 graduate of the Leyton High School in Dalton, Nebraska. She attended Grace University in Omaha and finished three years of college at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, majoring in English.

She is survived by her parents Lauren and Charlotte Swanson of Dalton, Nebraska and her sister Heather and husband Nate Storey of Tenakee Springs, Alaska. She is also survived by her dearly held nieces and nephews Charlotte, Hank, Eleanor, Ben, McKenzie and Amos.

Ashley is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Harold L. and Illinois Andrews of Hartselle, Alabama, and her paternal grandparents Lowell L. and Mildred Rose Swanson of Dalton, Nebraska.

Godspeed Ashley. Words cannot express how much we love and miss you.
Zaijian. Until we meet again.

Dennis Jordan Peters was born in the Dalton, NE hospital on September 6, 1959, to Jay and Mary Jo (Walsh) Peters. He attended Dalton Public Schools throughout his childhood. In high school, Dennis enjoyed and excelled in all sports. Dennis was especially fond of football. His athleticism captured the attention of Tom Osborn and was offered a scholarship to play for Osborn at the University of Nebraska. Dennis received numerous high school football awards including being selected as Nebraska’s Class “D” Defensive Player of the Year in 1977 and Nebraska’s All State Defensive Player of the Year in 1977. He was also selected to play in the Nebraska Shrine Football Game. Dennis was in the last class to graduate as Dalton Tiger in 1978.

He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity while he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. There, he made many, many lifelong friends. After receiving his bachelor's in science, he returned to the Dalton community to continue his passion of farming. While farming, Dennis also worked at Pfizer Corporation for numerous years. Dennis met and later married Renee Kuehn in December 1986. Together, they welcomed their two children, Jordan Ray in March 1990 and Justine Renee in November 1993.

Dennis loved and lived for his family and farm. It was nothing for Dennis to work around the clock, making sure everything was done before heading home to his family. He was devoted to his wife, making sure that everything was well taken care of, including making sure the horses were fed, even if it took Renee a few times to remind him. Dennis loved attending athletic events for Jordan and Justine. His deep, booming voice often could be heard cheering and encouraging them from the crowd. Dennis enjoyed and cherished his time with Jordan. They would spend hours hunting, shooting guns, and grilling and smoking together. Although Dennis was mostly the taste tester for Jordan, he thoroughly enjoyed Jordan’s famous smoked homemade pizza. Dennis was extremely supportive of Justine’s horse career. Attending horse shows all over the mid-west. Watching her at all levels of competition was a priority to Dennis. He would drive over 1,200 miles round trip just to watch Justine compete at Oklahoma State University. His support continued as Justine married Spencer, and she was converted into a barrel racer. Dennis loved to joke with Justine, asking her every time before she ran barrels, “do you know your pattern?”

He was a strong believer in serving his community, always offering, and helping others. Numerous times Dennis was found helping Wheatbelt and other power companies by pulling their machinery out of the ditches with his tractors after or even during the horrible western Nebraska storms. Dennis was nicknamed “the farmer” by these power companies as he never abandoned them, staying there until he was able to get them out. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church serving as Chairman and elder. Dennis was also very involved as a director board member for the Crossroads Coop and the Farm Service Agency.

Dennis was an exceptional husband, father, papa, friend, mentor, and more. He was a loyal, genuine, honest, extremely hardworking, self-less man. He will be remembered for his big heart and his strong and powerful handshake. Dennis’s patience, kindness, wisdom, wittiness, and his enthusiastic “Papa D” story telling about Jasper the mountain lion will never be forgotten. Dennis’s faith was strong and unshakable in the Lord. He loved deeply, especially for his grandchildren.

He will be missed by his wife, Renee; son, Jordan Peters; his daughter, Justine and husband Spencer Jobman; his three grandchildren, Sloane and Josephine Jobman, and Reece Peters; his mother, Mary Jo Peters; sisters, Margaret and husband Bob Noonan; Karen Peters; Diane husband Maury Horst; and Connie and husband Paul Pryde; father-in-law, Ray and wife Teri Kuehn; brother-in-law Les (Jean Handley) Kuehn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jay Peters; mother-in-law, Clarice Kuehn; niece, Sara Russell; paternal and fraternal grandparents; and infant sister, Ann Marie.
