We must break down the barriers and stigma surrounding alcohol treatment and advocate for more accessible, effective care.

With nearly 1 in 3 struggling with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) across their lifetime, it is more important than ever to provide awareness around alcohol use. Throughout April, we will address and challenge the centuries of myth and misinformation that have long guided our national misunderstanding of alcohol addiction and treatment.

By changing the national perception and conversation around AUD, we can substantially change lives and make care far more effective and accessible. Less than 10% of those with AUD will ever receive the treatment they deserve. That must change - the time is now.

For Taylor Swift, “karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.” For us, it’s getting to watch two of our favorite NFL teams - The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers - meet for the second time in five years for SuperBowl LVIII. Not in our wildest dreams did we think we’d see this incredible matchup again so soon. May the best team win, and may the other one shake it off quickly. We’ll be enjoying the game with this non-alcoholic cocktail, for which we have mad love. Just like football and Taylor, it’ll never go out of style!

- ice
- 2 ounces freshly squeezed blood orange juice
- 3 ounces Lyre's Spirit Co Italian Orange
- 4 ounces Lyre's Spirit Co Classico
- 1 ounce club soda
- sprig of thyme
- blood orange slices for garnish

1. Fill tall glass with ice.
2. Squeeze over blood orange juice, then pour in the Lyre's Italian Orange and Lyre's Classico.
3. Give a quick stir with a thyme sprig.
4. Top with the club soda (or blood orange soda if you want a more robust flavor). Drop in a blood orange slice or two.
5. Enjoy!

With a massive winter storm blanketing most of the country, many of us are dreaming of beaches and tropical beverages. Whether you find yourself snowed in or getting ready to catch some waves, treat yourself to a little liquid sunshine with this fruity and refreshing alcohol-free Royal Mai Tai cocktail! A twist on the 1971 Royal Hawaiian Mai Tai, this zero-proof libation is sure to transport you to summer.

- 1 ounce non-alcoholic silver rum (Lyre's Spirit Co White Cane Spirit)
- 1 ounce non-alcoholic dark rum (Lyre's Spirit Co Dark Cane Spirit)
- ½ ounce non-alcoholic orange liqueur (Lyre's Spirit Co Orange Sec)
- 1½ ounce orange juice
- ½ ounce pineapple Juice
- ½ ounce lime juice
- 1 pineapple slice
- Maraschino Cherries (Luxardo is our go-to)

1. Combine all of the ingredients in your cocktail shaker and add ice.
2. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
3. Strain over ice in a highball glass.
4. Garnish with a pineapple slice and maraschino cherry. Enjoy!

TIP - Want to take this cocktail to a new level? Add a little salt around the rim! The addition of salt mixes well with the sugar and acidity to bring out something new in this festive drink!

Sure, Italy is known for its abundant art, culture, and architectural offerings, but our personal favorites tend to be of the culinary variety: pasta, gelato, and delicious beverages. Here's a non-alcoholic take on one of our absolute favorites, The Saronno. We find this amaretto sour inspired concoction perfect to snuggle up with next to a fireplace on a chilly winter night!

1½ ounces alcohol-free amaretto (Lyre's Spirit Co is a great choice)
1 ounce alcohol-free bourbon (Spiritless's Kentucky 74 is our go-to)
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon simple syrup
½ ounce egg white, beaten
Lemon slice or twist, for garnish
Maraschino cherries (Luxardo are our favorite)

Combine the N/A amaretto, N/A bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white in a cocktail shaker and shake without ice, about 10 seconds.
Strain over fresh ice in an old-fashioned glass.
Garnish with the lemon peel and brandied cherries.

TIP
To make a delicious simple syrup, heat 1 cup sugar in ½ cup water in a pot over low heat until dissolved. Cool to room temperature before using and refrigerate after use.

"Throughout most of my life, alcohol was present. I experimented with it in my early teens, drank on weekends in high school and college, and used alcohol to unwind from workdays in the financial district. I also started to consume it more heavily when I began playing music with bands and spending more time in nightclubs.

Early on, I experienced some negative repercussions from my alcohol use, but was so young that the consequences were not that serious. And alcohol “worked” for me. I liked how it made me feel – it helped me celebrate my victories, mourn my losses, and mask trauma in all its forms. And then it stopped working. My drinking was no longer magnanimous and my misuse of alcohol started to create problems in my family life, my work life, and in all forms of my relationships. People who cared about me began to worry about me. I was concerned, so I sought out help and treatment. And that was one of the most courageous steps I have ever taken.

Finding treatment 20 years ago was challenging, as the prevailing model then (and still mostly today), was that total abstinence was the only goal worthy of support and treatment. For several years I would bounce in and out of one treatment center or support group to another, never really feeling that I was getting what I needed or wanted out of them. When I finally made peace with my relationship with alcohol, I came to understand that it was, in part, the cumulative help of a few dedicated professionals scattered throughout my treatment history. Most importantly, it was the peers I met, with their lived experience, who shared their own experiences and listened to me with compassion and without judgement that had a meaningful and positive impact on me. The combination of dedicated professionals and empathetic peers was what helped me find what my recovery looked like and what worked best for me. It was a revelation that would lead me to a broader purpose in my life.

This revelation grew to become my life’s biggest passion and I returned to school and became a certified Community Health Worker and trained peer specialist who believes that all individuals and their families who are affected by AUD deserve support and treatment. With close to 46 million Americans alone suffering from AUD, it is time to make leading edge, comprehensive, compassionate, and personalized treatment accessible and affordable to everyone. - 1 ½ oz alcohol-free silver tequila (like Lyre's Agave Blanco Spirit)
- 2-3 oz grapefruit juice
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz simple syrup
- Rosemary sprigs (halved)
- Grapefruit slice
- Ice
- Grapefruit soda (optional)

1. Add 1.5 oz alcohol-free silver tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and half of rosemary to a cocktail shaker.
2. Add a handful of ice and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until frothy and very cool.
3. Pour the Paloma into your prepared glass over ice, and top up with grapefruit soda if desired. Garnish with rosemary, a slice of lime, or grapefruit. Enjoy!
