Therapy sessions can take on so many forms. Sure, there’s the couch, the tissue box and the talking. But sometimes utilizing creative approaches to processing emotions can be just as effective. Today is one of those examples, where a therapist utilized an alcohol ink kit from to do some meditative creating.

“For many q***r and trans people, labels can be a meaningful part of understanding themselves and finding community. When someone shares a label with you, it can be helpful to ask, What does that word mean to you? Even when two people use the same identity label, their experiences and relationship to that word can be entirely different. Labels can foster connection, build community, and support advocacy. They can also lead to assumptions or oversimplifications if we stop listening once a label is shared.”

🌟 New on the blog: Healing Connections Counseling Center staff therapist, Esra Sahsuvaroglu, LAC examines what exactly is grief, and what does it mean to grieve?

✨ It’s definitely not a “one-size-fits-all” situation. While it’s normal to feel various emotions such as anger, confusion, guilt, numbness, relief, sadness, and many other feelings (sometimes all at once), grief doesn’t exactly follow a timeline, and it certainly doesn’t happen in linear stages. These feelings may resurface at times, just as you thought you were over them. You may have waves of acceptance and denial.

✨ Everyone’s healing is unique, and it doesn’t follow a straight path. Most importantly, there’s no “right” way to grieve.
