⚡️That “little ache” on the outside of your foot? Don’t ignore it!

What starts as a dull ache in the outer midfoot can turn into a full-blown fracture — the dreaded Jones fracture 🦴. This injury happens at the base of the fifth metatarsal (the long bone on the outside of your foot) and is common in high-impact athletes — especially those with high arches, which load the outer edge of the foot more.

But it’s not just for pros — anyone who suddenly ramps up activity, or who has weaker bones (like from osteoporosis), can be at risk.

💡 Early recognition and proper care can prevent a stress fracture from becoming a bigger problem.

Want to know why it happens and how it’s treated? Step over to 👉

A "Jones' fracture" is a special type of stress fracture of the base of the 5th metatarsal (Figure 1). The fracture itself often occurs acutely but the repetitive stress that leads up to the sudden fracture has often built up over time.

🏃♂️ Got heel pain that hits right where your Achilles meets your heel bone?
You might be dealing with insertional Achilles tendinitis — a condition that’s as tricky as it sounds. It’s often part of a “terrible triad”:
1️⃣ The Achilles tendon becomes inflamed right where it attaches to the heel bone.
2️⃣ A small bursa forms, adding swelling and irritation.
3️⃣ A bony bump called a Haglund’s deformity can make things even worse.

👟 It’s common in both older weekend warriors and elite runners — or anyone whose Achilles has taken years of wear and tear.

✅ Good news: Most people improve with simple steps like rest, stretching, heel lifts, or supportive shoes with a slight heel rise.
⚙️ If symptoms stick around, surgery may be needed to smooth out the bone and calm the inflammation.

👟 Got a mysterious bump on the top of your foot?

Meet the Tarsal Boss — a name that sounds powerful but can be a real pain! 💥
This bony lump often shows up on the top of the midfoot. For many people, it’s harmless — just hanging out quietly under the skin. But when tight shoes or laces press on it, it can become irritated and sore. Sometimes, a tarsal boss develops from midfoot arthritis, where extra bone (a spur) forms over time.

👣 The good news: most tarsal bosses can be managed without surgery. Padding the area, skipping a few lace holes, or wearing shoes with more room on top can keep your foot happy.
If arthritis is the culprit and pain persists, surgery to remove the bump — and sometimes fuse the affected joint — may be needed.

👣 Heel pain slowing you down?
You might be dealing with plantar fasciitis — the #1 troublemaker behind sore heels!
Maybe you’ve started a new workout routine or landed a job that keeps you on your feet all day. Then one morning — ouch! — that first step feels like walking on a nail. Plantar fasciitis happens when the thick band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that runs along the bottom of your foot gets overworked and irritated where it attaches to your heel bone. Every step adds tiny stresses, and over time your body fights back with inflammation and pain.
The good news? 🦶 Most people get better with simple treatments — think supportive shoes, gentle calf stretches, and a short break from high-impact activities.

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. Pain is often most noticeable during the first few steps in the morning.

What's your ?
A high-arched foot can lead to a variety of critical problems, including recurring ankle sprains, ankle instability, peroneal tendonitis, 5th metatarsal stress fractures, and sesamoiditis.

Foot types dictate how force is transmitted through the foot. Foot shapes follow a spectrum ranging from a flatfoot to a high arched foot.

👣 That bump on the outside of your foot isn’t just from tight shoes!
It might be a bunionette, also called a Tailor’s bunion — the little cousin of a regular bunion. Instead of affecting the big toe, it forms on the outside of your foot near the little toe, often making shoes feel too tight or uncomfortable. The name comes from old-time tailors who sat cross-legged, putting constant pressure on that part of the foot!

A bunionette often runs in families and can become painful, especially with narrow or stiff shoes. The good news? Most people feel better with roomier footwear, soft padding, or cushioned inserts that reduce pressure — no surgery needed in most cases.
