Let’s talk real postpartum advice from real moms…
1. Every baby and every mom are incredibly different. While it’s easy to compare yourself, your baby and your postpartum journey to others around you, it’s so important for your mental health that you try not to slip into the comparison game.
2. Getting out of the house can do wonders for your mental health. It can feel intimidating to take the baby out, but doing so successfully is a huge confidence boost and can be a total game changer in how you feel that day.
3. Go easy on yourself. Your body just did an INCREDIBLE thing, but don’t underestimate the mental (and hormonal) factors that went into it all too. Your brain and body need and deserve grace and time to recover, and you will never regret taking it slow and spending time bonding with your baby.
4. When they say “it takes a village,” they mean it. Even if you’re surrounded by people, enjoying motherhood, can feel extremely isolating at times. Having support and community to lean on is more important than you could imagine.
5. All those “must-have” gadgets and fancy baby things? While some can be helpful, you’ll be just fine without them. Don’t worry if your feel you’re missing something from your registry - the most important thing your baby can have is you.
6. Set clear boundaries, expectations and ways to be most helpful for your guests. A lot of guests or family members may think you want them to hold the baby so you can “get things done.” If that’s what you need - great! But if you’d benefit from THEM tidying so you can hold your baby in peace, don’t be afraid to voice that.
7. Take. A. Shower.!!! You’d be amazed at the way a 10 minute shower can make you feel human again.
