Hey everyone! This is the anniversary of my mishap. It’s been a long year, but I’m still here! Getting better every day. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Looking to hit the trails this spring, and maybe out to the golf course. I’ll take it slow and steady. Happy New Year! Barry

Hello Friends & Family,
It’s been a while since an update:
If you saw Barry’s recent Facebook story, it may have caused some confusion. Barry is NOT in the hospital currently. He accidentally posted an old picture and could not figure out how to delete it.

Here is a recent picture of our Barry - sporting new glasses! His field of vision is returning, and he is even learning, how to drive again (short distances for now).

Barry has graduated from PT and OT. He’ll be hitting the trail, on his bicycle, by summer. 🚴

Barry has been home for a week, and continues to make steady progress each day. Today we got him out to enjoy the sun and do a bit of walking. We are so proud of how far he has come in a short time.

UPDATE: Barry transferred to Sunrise View Rehabilitation Facility in Everett, on January 14th, Friday afternoon. He was greeted at his new facility by sister Melinda, brother Doug, niece Gracie, and his buddy Kevin Carlin. Seeing his friends and family in person gave Barry some peace of mind. So far, he is enjoying his new home away from home.
Sunrise View implements strict COVID safety practices, where employees and visitors are tested each day, on site. After a 10-days transition period, Barry will be able to start accepting visitors. He will have a busy PT, OT, and speech language therapy schedule as he learns skills to help him adapt to returning home.
Meanwhile, the family is making preparations for Barry’s successful return home. Doug is working on an application for disability SS, while Carrie and Melinda are packing Barry’s belongings to move him from his second floor apartment to a ground unit in the same building.

Current Address:
Barry Engbert
C/O Sunrise View

Cards and pictures would be a wonderful gift to send to Barry right now. He will be at this facility for at least 2 weeks.

UPDATE: We have been reading Barry everyone's comments and he said to thank EVERYONE and let you guys know how much better it makes him feel!!! He loves you all!!! ♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏

Barry was able to help shave himself this weekend and he's pretty proud of that. He wants you to know that he loves you all and is going to work hard to push through this.

Barry has had some pretty rough days, especially when he’s dealing with severe headaches. He has some hallucinations, due partly to the bleeding on his brain, and partly from his medication. These confusing episodes have been frustrating for him.

The hospital is limiting Barry's phone time. He was calling us all day and sometimes two or three times during the night so he wasn't getting much sleep. He had a full night's sleep last night and was more coherent and seemed like his old self this evening. We did a conference call between Doug, Carrie, Barry and Melinda... He did great!!! Talking and kidding with family members and even talking about when he gets out and is back to normal. He had a positive attitude today!!!

We are in the process of finding an aftercare facility that will take his medical. We are looking into several in the Edmonds and Lynnwood areas. Everyday is like being on an emotional roller coaster.

We’ve also made arrangements with his apartment complex to have him moved to a ground unit, when he returns home, that doesn't have all the stairs to walk up and down. We are hopeful that some of his friends, along with family, will help with the moving process. We will probably be moving his things in about 2 weeks. Carrie and Melinda are going to start packing some of his things this weekend to make things easier.

Today he sees the light at the end of the tunnel and we are all hopeful that he will make a full recovery... Please continue to keep Barry in your thoughts and prayers...♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏

If you would like to send him a card, please send to:

C/O ENGBERT
18609 Hawksview Drive
Arlington, WA. 98223

If you would like to send something directly to Barry, he still is Room 815 at Providence Everett - Colby Campus.

Friends & Family: December 29, 2021, Barry was admitted to Everett's Providence Regional Medical Center. He was experiencing a bad headache, vision problems, and difficulty walking. MRI, CT scans and angiograms indicated that Barry suffered a significant brain bleed. His team of doctors quickly ruled out aneurism and stroke as possible culprits. Barry’s blood pressure was extremely high, causing a blood vessel to burst and bleed on his brain. He has suffered irreversible vision loss in part of his left eye, due to the brain bleed, and he continues to suffer from unmanageable headaches. His team of doctors are looking to transfer Barry to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. Barry will need PT, OT, and vision therapy to gain independence skills to return home. Once Barry transfers to an inpatient facility, this page will update with his address. At this time, Providence Hospital does not allow visitation. He has his cell phone with him and can receive calls. Please continue to hold Barry in your thoughts and prayers.
