I’ve never been completely houseless. As in, I’ve always had a bed in a house that I could have gone to, help I could have begged.

But I’ve certainly spent nights cold, hungry, and dreaming of abundance. Days where the gift of hot water brings tears, the gift of food sobs, the gift of a simple kind smile bringing a warmth like you wouldn’t believe through my head and chest…

And this is, at least partly, where my determination to help “the poor” come from. Because we’re all the poor, or at least closer than we like to think.

And this is a planet that produces more than enough food to feed everyone on its sphere-ish edge, and then throws metric and standard tons of it away, to where millions still starve.

We live inside a profoundly sick society
