Do you have a specific day of the week that you pour into yourself? Whether its"Self Care Saturday" or "Self Care Sunday" you need to intentionally create habits to take care of your needs.

You can start by asking yourself, "what do I need?" Once you can identify what you may need to recharge begin taking steps to meet that need. Self care doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. If you find things are getting too overwhelming talking to a licensed therapist can also be a way of pouring back into yourself. Grind culture can cause you to constantly stay in survival mode, causing chronic stress. This type of stress response significantly affects your cognitive functioning. You become easily distracted or reactive, it also diminishes your analytical and creative abilities. Long term ongoing stress can increase the risk for hypertension, heart attack or stroke. Be mindful of the constant "grind culture" it doesnt allow your body to rest and replenish in the way it needs to. It's okay to take a break, slow down, and breathe... its neccessary!! Stacking unused PTO days and not taking a break is not a badge of honor it's a sign of neglect. It shows you are prioritizing something else instead of yourself. Why? Journaling is a beneficial self-care practice. It can improve communication skills, increase self-confidence, reduce anxiety, track goals/intentions, and strengthen memory. If you have struggled to get started with journaling or unsure what to journal, try these prompts over the next 7 days. At the end of the 7 days to make journaling a sustainable habit try "anchoring" your journaling. Anchor your journaling to an already established habit such as your morning or night routine to ensure you make it a habit.

Self talk can be positive and negative, its your internal dialogue influenced by your subconscious mind. If your inner dialogue is too negative you may want to shift that inner dialogue to more positive self talk. This takes practice if its not your natural instinct. If you can master positive self talk your thoughts tend to be more confident, productive, and motivational. Positive self talk is affirming and can aid in reducing stress and anxiety. Remember, its not only what you say to yourself its also how you say it. Language matters be kind to yourself.

How you start your day determines how your day will progress. Here are a few tips to start your morning on a positive note.

1) Start your day with gratitude. List 3-5 things you are grateful for this shifts your mindset and sets the tone for the day.
2) Visualize things that make you happy. Happy thoughts tend to create happy emotions.
3) Complete a breathwork sequence. This relaxes your mind and makes you feel calm.
4) Listen to uplifting music.
5) Organize your space it aids in clearing your mind and welcomes peaceful energy to flow through.
6) Read an inspiring article or listen to a motivational podcast.
7) Read your morning affirmations aloud to take control of your mood for the day and set the intention.

Its okay to be selfish and choose yourself. We have been conditioned to think that loving ourself is selfish. However, when you love yourself you stop finding problems with yourself and find yourself. It's complete acceptance, appreciation, and affirmation of who you are. Remember, you deserve the love that you give to everyone else.

Yoga is also beneficial in healing trauma. Yoga helps bring the body's systems back into balance. As it relates to trauma informed yoga it invites you to be in contact with emotions, find safety in the body, promotes healing through resourcing in the physical body, and utilizes the senses to stay present in the moment. Over time trauma gets stuck in the body and yoga is a way to free those trapped emotions allowing them to move out out of the body in a gentle way. Taking a holistic approach and integrating the mind, body, and spirit is key in healing trauma. Remember yoga is not about "working out" but "working within." Namaste
