This post in is response to a comment about grocery store employees and how to help them deal with the public response to mask wearing etc...

First, I think it's important to remember that the staff are dealing with both the environment at work and their own life changes. The Front Line workers are under an incredible amount of stress. While it helps to have people acknowledge the work they are doing and show appreciation, the treatment by the few unhappy with wearing masks, supply levels and the situation overall can make all the accolades fade into the distance.

There are things employers and managers can do to help staff weather this storm in a healthier manner.
1. Acknowledge the storm and those moments that are hard to deal with. Give employees the time they need to go into a back room and regroup.
2. Encourage staff to practice deep breathing exercises, stretching, 2 minute reset exercises (I can PM this to you if your interested)... And other self-care activities.
3. Ensure your staff are adequately hydrated! This helps them stay healthier and battle the fatigue they may be feeling.
4. If you are providing snacks for your staff, avoid sugary processes snacks and opt for fresh fruits and veggies, snacks high in complex carbs or protein.
5. If you can, provide consistent schedules and shifts for your team. This will help with a more consistent schedule at home and will promote better sleep.
6. Most importantly, talk to your staff. Notice when they have dark rings under their eyes. Ask them if they are doing ok? Really ok. If you can, ask how they're managing schools being out, concern for other family members etc... if someone is struggling, refer them to your company's EAP hotline number. If you suspect someone needs intervention, don't hesitate to talk with your HR about how to have that conversation and get them help!

Hi Friends and Family! Today, I want to ask how are you doing? Not to get an answer like "FINE" but to really hear how is your stress level? How are you feeling about wearing a mask in grocery stores? Do you feel comfortable with restrictions being lifted? What are your fears for yourself and your health? Fears for your family and friends? I'd love to hear what you are doing to stay mentally, physically and spiritually healthy?

This morning, as I scrolled through my personal page, there were many posts of people feeling scared, discouraged, down. A rough way to start the traditional work week. For many this is definitely not a Happy Monday.

Yesterday, Pres Trump extended the "social distancing" rules until April 30th. It was also announced that we will most likely see increasing numbers of infections and deaths over the next 2 weeks. This is somber news.

We can't control what's going on in the World. We can, however, control how we respond. Take some Deep Breaths! Look around and note all the things you can be grateful for this morning- Those deep breaths! You woke up. You have running water and soap to wash your hands. Perhaps your family is with you or you know they are safe. Maybe you have enough Toilet paper 😄 for today. You have the opportunity to learn more about your God.

Now, how do you respond to today? It's your choice, you can create a memory with your loved ones regardless of where they are. You can take the time to declutter a room or do a virtual tour of a museum. You can encourage others. How you respond will be the mindset you go to bed with. It doesn't have to be the blue mindset of Monday morning.

Take control, take that deep breath and choose to be powerful today!

Today is day #16 on my 40 day sugar fast. It's also the first day of travel on my fast. I brought food with me for my morning at the airport but thought I'd see what options were available. After reading the labels of packaged "healthy food" in the cooler at one restaurant at SeaTac Airport, I can to the conclusion there isn't much available. On a healthy smoothie option it had both honey AND high fructose corn syrup. I think on my way home, I'll be sticking to a veggie tray with no sauce.

Are you fasting from anything right now? How have you adjusted? Are your cravings going away?

Today is day 3 of my Sugar Detox. So far, I have craved sugar ALL day every single day. It's funny how when we choose to be intentional about something, that's what we focus on.

The purpose of this particular detox is to shift my focus from Sugar to God. I have had to go back and read the day's devotional a few times and have extra conversations with God through prayer to stay strong.

But, I've done it! I have had NO refined sugar since Sunday. I'm not quite sure how I feel right now so I'm focusing on the success instead of trying to define any physical changes.

Have you decided to fast? What did you decide to fast from?
