Happy new episode Monday! Which is now...EVERY Monday. That's right we are returning to weekly episodes so settle in. 😎

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing newly minted IBCLC and vetted SLP Kellie Green. She is the owner of Green Living and Wellness (https://www.greenlivingandwellness.com) based out of Columbus, OH. Like most of us, Covid had us rethinking A LOT. Press play to hear why she was ready to go work at the mall. 😁

Tune in and tag a friend who needs some motivation!

Caring for our bodies pre conception through post partum is a MUST! We have to be mindful of what we are putting in our bodies to do our best to ensure a healthy pregnancy and post partum recovery.

This is not to say there are other factors in good health (i.e. racist birth practices) however, we can do our best to try and have a healthy pregnancy to the best of our ability.

*Being active pre conception and during pregnancy or extremely important. Activities such as walking, yoga, weights etc. can be extremely helpful with muscle development and tone.

*Consuming whole nutrient rich foods *heavily* geared towards plants.
~fruits: melons, betties etc.
~dark leafy greens: kale, collards, spinach, dandelion etc.
~beans + legumes: peas, chickpeas, black beans etc. soaking dry beans or rinsing canned beans can be helpful in reducing gas.
~Seeds + nuts: pumpkin seeds, h**p seeds, chia, almonds, walnuts etc.

Plenty of complex carbs (good carbs) and proteins.

We are S E V E N days into December! How is your challenge going?!

Remember when it gets cold we tend to sit down and eat 👎🏾

This is the time to increase fruits and veggies, walk and exercise and stay hydrated.

*SHARE/SAVE FOR LATER*
For those that celebrate the upcoming holidays it can be a tough time to create boundaries with family and friends.

My advice is to try and establish these things early on during pregnancy but it is never too late to let people know your stance for YOUR baby and family.

Use some of these replies (if necessary) to help you when visiting. Be firm in your communication and if all else fails be courageous to leave without remorse.

YOU are in control of the environment for your baby. Speak up and advocate for yourself and for them.

Today we are taking a look at iron!

It is possible to get the recommended daily amount of iron in through diet. At times supplementation may be needed, but we can always examine our food intake to see if it accurately supports proper absorption.

Typically, 27 mg/day is needed during pregnancy. This drops once baby is born to about 9 mg/day. On an average, sitting in the range of 10-27 mg per day is a safe range.

Pairing foods with Vitamin C foods may assist with absorption. There are various factors that play a part in absorption: consumption of dairy, animal products, alcohol consumption etc.

At times in the U.S there is OVER consumption of iron which can lead to gestational diabetes and low birth weight as well as other diseases.

It is HIGHLY recommended to know your status prior to pregnancy to understand if additional supplementation is needed. This means being knowledgeable of what type of prenatal "vitamin" may fit your body and needs specifically.
