Blythe Wellness had the privilege of joining forces with Lawall Orthotics and Prosthetics to visit the Capitol in Harrisburg, where we met with local leaders to advocate for amputees and speak up for equitable access to care.
As a practice founded by an amputee, therapist, and advocate, our mission is rooted in lived experience — and in standing up for the thousands across Pennsylvania who face unnecessary barriers to mobility, dignity, and independence due to limitations in care.
We shared personal stories, policy concerns, and the urgent need for sustainable solutions that ensure access for all — especially the most vulnerable.
A major point of conversation was the recent milestone: For the first time in nearly 40 years, Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Program has made long-overdue updates to Orthotics and Prosthetics reimbursement — including the addition of vital billing codes.
But while this is progress, it’s not enough.
Many Managed Care Organizations continue to treat the state Medicaid fee schedule as a ceiling instead of a baseline — suppressing fair reimbursement for providers and threatening access to quality care.
The conversation around the “Big Beautiful Bill” is ongoing. At Blythe Wellness, we believe this is not about politics — it’s about people. It’s about justice. And it’s about ensuring that policy works for those it’s meant to serve.
We were honored to attend the Department of Human Services’ Medical Assistance Advisory Committee Meeting to further advocate for patient protections and provider equity.
This will not be our last time showing up — the work continues. We’re proud to collaborate with senators, DHS, and community advocates to keep driving this mission forward.
We hope our efforts inspire others to speak up. Together, we can build a more inclusive, accessible future for all. Stay tuned for more updates !💙🦿
