Our sun is a giant ball of burning gases that emit ultraviolet radiation. Our earth's atmosphere and magnetic field deflect of the solar radiation making life possible. There is still radiation that comes through these protective layers. Even notice how the unexposed skin of our bodies look unblemished and youthful compared to our faces, chest, and hands? The exposed parts of our skin will over time develop hyperpigmentation, lines, and wrinkles. We can prevent further damage by using sunscreen. EVERYONE regardless of skin color, should wear sun protection.
SPF or sun protection factor is actually the percentage of UV rays blocked. Sunblock is a physical protectant. It contains minerals such as titanium or zinc oxides that deflect the UV rays away from the skin. This is helps to keep the skin cooler. These are particularly good for people with sensitive and rosacea prone skin. Chemical sunscreens protect by absorbing and scattering solar rays. Both physical and chemical sunscreens protect against UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays retain their damaging strength in winter as they do in summer and are responsible for most of the aging effects. They pe*****te deeper into the dermis, the lowest levels of the skin. This leads to damage of the collagen and elastin fibers causing thinning and wrinkling of the skin. UVB rays cause the burning. These pe*****te the epidermis, which are the more superficial layers of the skin and is thought to be most responsible for most skin cancers. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours; sooner if swimming or heavily perspiring. Another reason to apply protection whether or not we are out in the sun is blue light. Blue light is emitted by all our computer screens and cell phones. There are specially coated eyeglasses to protect one's eyes. In this case, chemical sunscreens will not be effective and a mineral (or physical) block is indicated.
We offer a mineral based block that has a luxurious mousse like texture that works great as a makeup primer. It is well tolerated by the most sensitive skins and we believe it to be one the best!
Please see the post previous to this one. It is of a man that was 69 years old at the time. He spent 28 years as a truck driver. The driver's side of his face clearly shows the havoc that solar radiation causes on the skin. This is in stark contrast to the other side of his face, which is how he aged naturally without solar influence.
