Introducing Suzy to the Thrive Maternal Care team! 🎉

With over 15 years of diverse experience in occupational therapy, Suzy brings deep clinical insight and compassionate care to the Thrive Maternal Care team. Her journey into pelvic health was inspired by her years serving women through home-based care, neurological rehab, and spinal cord injury recovery—most recently at the VA, where she worked with veterans navigating brain injury, spinal cord injury, and home-based primary care.

But it was her personal experience as a mom of two boys that lit a deeper passion for women’s health. Navigating the physical and emotional shifts of motherhood firsthand, Suzy became curious about the gaps in postpartum care and felt called to help bridge them.

Originally from Los Angeles and now rooted in the Bay Area, Suzy combines her clinical expertise with a whole-person approach to care. She’s passionate about creating a safe, supportive space where moms feel seen, heard, and empowered in their recovery—because pelvic health is not just about the body, but about feeling whole again.

✨ Meet Angeliki, the newest provider at Thrive Maternal Care! ✨

Angeliki’s passion for pelvic health started when her sister shared her postpartum struggles with incontinence. During her own pregnancy with twins, she faced p***c symphysis pain, vulvar swelling, and more—so she dove into research, determined to find solutions. Now, she’s here to help YOU navigate pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond! 💪💙

Before specializing in pelvic health, Angeliki spent 7 years working in trauma and community hospitals in the Bay Area. She’s taught pelvic floor classes, developed a peripartum exercise program for a local barre studio, and supports post-surgical clients with lymphatic drainage and movement strategies.

When she’s not helping clients, she’s out in nature, practicing yoga, making pottery, or planning pastry-filled family outings. 🥐✨

Here are three questions to consider when you’re rushing to the toilet dealing with incontinence 👇

These three questions will help you better understand your habits and assist your pelvic floor therapist in making a proper care plan based on your symptoms.

ASK YOURSELF:

1. Am I rushing to the bathroom as soon as I feel the urge? 🏃‍♀️

Reflecting on whether there’s an immediate need to rush can help in managing urge suppression techniques effectively.

2. Am I feeling stressed right now? 🧘

Checking in with yourself is crucial as emotional (and pelvic) tension can exacerbate incontinence issues.

Stress felt in the body can look like racing thoughts/distraction or feel like fatigue, irritability, or overwhelm.

3. Am I fully emptying my bladder? 🚽

Noticing whether you feel completely relieved after using the bathroom (usually 15-20 seconds of peeing) can indicate if your bladder is emptying properly or if there might be issues that need addressing.

Becoming a mom is a journey that transforms you forever – and so does your body’s experience. The postpartum period is often mentioned as the first 6 weeks, maybe stretching to 12 months after birth, but we know motherhood is an eternal embrace ✨

Somewhere along the way, the enduring conditions many moms face have been quietly accepted as just “part of being a mom”.

But as we navigate through the endless cycles of motherhood, it’s crucial to remember: Your well-being is paramount, and pelvic floor health is no exception.

The good news? Pelvic floor therapy is shedding light on these shadows, proclaiming loud and clear that it’s never too late to address and heal 🌺

I’ve had the honor of supporting women who are 10+ years into their motherhood journey, guiding them towards regaining control and comfort in their daily routines—from the basics of peeing and 💩-ing, to reclaiming joy in exercise and intimacy.

Feel ready to learn more? Reach out for an evaluation. Together, we can explore your habits over the years and chart a path toward healing and true normalcy.

As we embrace 2024, let’s make a committed effort to check in with our pelvic health regularly. Here’s how you can stay on top of your pelvic well-being this year:

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟏: 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

Begin with a regular self-assessment of your pelvic health. Take note of any symptoms like discomfort, changes in your menstrual cycle, or bladder issues. Staying attuned to your body is the first step in proactive health care.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟐: 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬

Make it a yearly ritual to discuss your pelvic health with your doctor. Even if you feel fine, an annual check-up can catch potential issues early and keep you informed about your health status. It’s all about preventive care.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝟑: 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝

If you or your doctor notice anything that requires specialized attention, don’t hesitate to consult a pelvic floor therapist. In 2024, we have more resources and specialists available than ever to support your health journey.

Let’s make 2024 a year of health empowerment! Stay in tune with your body, and don’t forget to prioritize your pelvic health.

Take control of your pelvic health today. It’s a vital step towards your overall well-being. 💪💗
