How is Dia de Los Mu***os good for our mental health? Death is no longer seen as a catastrophic event so we give ourselves permission to be happy, eat chocolate skulls, and remember beautiful memories. For this reason, the altars are made with the foods and drinks or things that that person liked.
"Some people may have trouble with the belief that the dead return to the altar as part of the tradition. But Pérez says that this too can be beneficial. “It means that you have the chance to say anything that was left unsaid before they died,” he mentioned.
Taking the stigma out of talking about death also leads us to express what we want when it is our time to die and to communicate that to family. This is important because it can help families find closure when the time comes, knowing that they respected the person’s wishes."

Latina entrepreneurs and business owners check this out!
Jennifer Lopez is doing her part for the hispanic community and I'm doing mine with Greater North Texas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce . At GNTHCC we are always looking for opportunities and resources for our members. But not only are we giving back to business owners but we have the opportunity to work with amazing organizations like Cannenta Center and Las Chicas del Barrio who provide mental health and mentorship programs for our Latina youth. Together we go farther.
Latino children with mental illnesses are half as likely to get mental health care as white non-Latino children. Latino families often report that they have a hard time getting care. When they do get care, they may be unhappy with it.
Cannenta Center strives to break the mental health stigma among the Hispanic Community and remove the financial and language barriers to services.
Dallas Legacy Mission Coalition of Hispanic Nonprofits of North Texas meeting was a success! We had 7 organizations represented and are looking forward to working together for our communities! Learned a lot about the different organizations out in our community!

On September 23, the Addison Economic Development and Tourism Director Orlando Campos and Economic Development Manager Wilson Kerr joined the Metrocrest Chamber at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Cannenta Center, which is located in the Madison building at 15851 Dallas Parkway in Suite 600.
Founder Dr. Leti Cavazo saw a need for more culturally sensitive mental health services for diverse individuals and marginalized groups. She and her team provide counseling in English, Spanish, and American Sign-Language to adolescents, single adults, families, and couples.
We are thrilled to have Cannenta in Addison!
