📢 FMCSA Issues Temporary Waiver to Support NRII Transition
📅 Effective July 14, 2025 | Valid Through October 12, 2025
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has issued a temporary waiver to ease the industry’s transition into the National Registry Integration Initiative (NRII) for electronic medical certification.
What This Means:
CDL and CLP holders, as well as motor carriers, may continue using paper copies of medical examiner’s certificates as valid proof of medical certification for up to 15 days after the exam date.
✅ Why It Matters:
This waiver is designed to support drivers, employers, and certified medical examiners as they adjust to the secure, electronic submission process required under the NRII final rule. FMCSA acknowledges potential delays with state systems and ensures drivers aren’t penalized for circumstances beyond their control.
Additional Guidance:
FMCSA strongly recommends that medical examiners continue issuing paper certificates during this transition—even when electronic submissions are completed—to prevent certification gaps.
