Our greatest power during times of chaos is to cultivate internal stillness. Finding that space within ourselves - whether through prayer, mindfulness, meditation or however - we claim a magnetic power that attracts harmony and good. You can’t bring order to a pile of iron shavings by sticking your fingers into it and trying to rearrange them. You can only do that by using a magnet. In human affairs, the Light within us is that magnet.

The Light within us has many names, but in essence it is Love. Compassion. Forgiveness. Peace.

Love is so needed now. We are starving for it. It’s painful living in such a tumultuous moment, particularly in the absence of strong institutional voices expressing moral reasoning. The scariest thing about this time is not just what’s happening, but a lack of leadership pointing to a better world ahead.

Yet even that brings a teaching, when we think about it. In AA it says that every problem comes bearing its own solution. The solution is that we ourselves are the voices needed to articulate a higher vision for the world. Finding Love within ourselves we can express it to the world.

The Light within us will cast out all darkness. But the Light within us is the light of compassion; the miracle does not emerge from hate. The voices of hate that fill the world today are the voices we must eschew. The small still Voice within is the voice of Love, and it will guide us to a better place.

When you eat only during say the hours of say 12 PM to 8 PM or during daylight hours which is called “appropriation” time for the body. It can be really beneficial and support weight loss, muscle stimulation, body contouring, detoxification, and feelings of well-being.

How do you feel about journaling? Is this something you do?

I just spent that last hour documenting my experience of the year 2022. I wrote 10 pages.

Thank heavens I love to take pictures or some of those memories, now on paper, would have been lost.

Journaling has never been my strength. However, I see the value.

For me, It’s a way to process and come to terms with choices and actions I made throughout the year.

It’s a way to give accountability or credit for what I did or didn’t do in following my dreams and goals or getting side tracked and doing something different.

It’s a way to connect with future generations, letting them know life is hard, it’s work, it’s commitment, it’s fun, it’s relationships, it’s compromise, it’s compassion, it’s messy, it’s easy, it’s all the things. And that is okay.

I don’t want my posterity to think they have to live up to whatever they THINK I am, as I did with my ancestors.

My choices in life sometimes created shame and guilt and worry I couldn’t live up to certain expectations. I didn’t want to disappoint the people I loved.

Because of this I wouldn’t talk about my problems with those that loved me the most out of fear of rejection and loss. And honestly, they probably would have been the best people to get support from at the time.

Don’t we all have that? Shame and guilt? We carry it around like a weight. Like punishment. If only we could just be more open and honest with each other and understand we are going to make choices that turn out good or bad and that’s just part of life.

When I journal, it is real and raw. I want my kids and grandkids to see I struggled just as they will. And when they think of me as they are raising their children, I hope they see things turned out ok even with all my flaws and poor decisions.

Because you know what? There were plenty of good choices mixed in there. Probably more good then bad. Life is working out. Life is good. Life is a journey.

I hope this empowers them to make choices and not feel guilt or shame when, at times, it doesn’t work out or wasn’t the best choice.

No, I haven’t let myself down. If anything I am more powerful today then ever before.

It was good to process the past year through journaling. Good to see the leap and bounds I have made. Good to look forward to another exciting year full of adventure, choices both good and bad, and lean in to loving myself and others.

I am proud of where I am today. My hope is that my posterity feels the same about themselves. I hope you feel the same about yourself.

It’s time to reflect.

Peace breeds success, not the other way around.

Here is one way to find peace first, which then allows everything else to then fall into place.

Forgive and Release

Have you ever thought about how much energy it takes to carry around all of the resentment, anger, and pain you’ve collected over the course of your life? We tend to hang on to these old stories of victim-hood, explaining why things are the way they are.

We think we need to tell these stories over and over again to ourselves and to others in order to justify where we are in life.

What if you decided you no longer needed to tell these stories? What if it was okay to release their hold over you and to choose peace because, well, in every moment you really do have that choice.

We choose to feel anger and resentment, and we choose to feel peace.

It may not happen overnight, but it is possible to release old stories and pain from the past, forgive ourselves and those that have wronged us, and to give ourselves permission to feel the joy and ease we deserve to feel right now, no matter what has happened in the past.
