What is the difference between mushrooms grown on grain and mushrooms grown on composted wood chips for medicinal purposes?

Morels are a precious find and should be given every chance to propagate. Pulling them could conceivably destroy their base or "root" (although, since mushrooms are fungi rather than a vegetable, the latter term is imprecise).
They should be pinched or cut with a pocket knife to ensure as much of the base remains intact as possible.
Also make note of the location to return the following spring for a future harvest.
In the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia where I grew up it was said that when maple leaves reached the size of a mouse ear (usually early May) it was time go searching for "miracles" (the colloquial word for morel in Appalachia).
Additionally, you need to keep glancing behind you while you search, since morels are often shielded by leaves they have pushed aside to sprout.

Not much, the mycelium is tiny and never extracted that l'm aware of. Most people only consume the fruiting body with then mycelium essentially being microscopic roots in some cases, with some species it'll look like fine white hairs growing in the substrate.
