Active Meditations Active meditations take place on Tuesdays from 7-8:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on the Unity Church of Fort Worth campus.

Active meditations are designed for people who find it difficult to sit still and quiet the chattering mind. We practice active techniques that release tension and prepare us for meditating in stillness. The techniques we use are based in various Eastern traditions and may include dance, chakra toning, shaking, visualization, chanting, drumming, and others. Check the website for specific informati

on about each week's meditation. Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat. Love Offerings are gratefully accepted.

6-Week Qigong Series

Choose from two days/times:
1. Sundays from 1:00-2:00 pm, starting on November 5 and ending on December 10.
2. Tuesdays from Noon until 1:00 pm, starting on November 7 and ending on December 12.

Qigong, an ancient Chinese practice of movement and meditation, is a wonderful way to tap into our own self-healing abilities. The primary qigong movements we will explore are slow, meditative, and powerful, yet gentle and easy to perform. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn and experience several other styles and forms of Qigong. All exercises will be done while standing.

There are numerous benefits to practicing Qigong, including increased energy levels, a greater sense of calmness, balanced hormones, improved strength and stamina, reduced joint pain and stiffness, enhanced balance, better immunity, improved mental functioning, and the integration of spiritual and internal energies.

Comfortable clothing and either flat, cushioned shoes or being barefoot are recommended for the sessions.

About the Instructor:

Pat Dorraj is a retired educator and lifelong learner who finds joy in assisting busy individuals on their journey towards self-empowerment through meditation and qigong. Pat has been practicing meditation for 35 years and began her journey with tai chi and qigong in 1996. She has studied under esteemed instructors such as Dennis Beck and Justin Harris in Fort Worth, Master Del Pe formerly of Houston, and Master Chunyi Lin of Minneapolis. Pat personally experienced the transformative power of meditation, qigong, and spending time in nature in overcoming her own battles with rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. She firmly believes that these modalities have the ability to relax and strengthen the body, foster self-awareness, and bring serenity and clarity to the mind, thus enhancing our innate self-healing abilities.

Hello, my dear friends,

Qigong means “working with energy.” It does not mean “doing your qigong exercises and meditations.”

So, yes, it is best if you make time to do Small Universe or the Butterfly Meditation and the healing movements. But that’s a limited view of Qigong. You can do Qigong anywhere, anytime, all day long. If fact you may have already been doing Qigong without even realizing it!

How about this?

When you go grocery shopping, try to smile with love every time someone makes eye contact with you. Smiling opens your heart, and it helps to open the heart of the other person. The love you share this way is the most powerful healing energy there is, and smiling releases endorphins in your own body – which help you to heal. What do you think happens when you keep doing that?

When you are standing in line, sitting in traffic, or sitting at home, practice energy breathing. That means visualizing healing energy entering every pore of your skin, running between all your cells, and gathering deep behind your navel when you breathe in, then visualizing any pain or sickness leaving the body as smoke – out through the pores, going to the ends of the sky. This breathing is a foundation of Spring Forest Qigong, and you can do it any time, anywhere, with no physical effort.

Before you leave the house every morning or before you go to bed every night, take a few seconds to close your eyes and give thanks for ten things in your life. They can be as simple as, “I am thankful I have food today” or “I am thankful for a chance to have a better day today.” Gratitude helps the kidney energy, and kidney energy is the body’s vitality. The more you can support the kidney energy, the faster you can heal and the more energy you will have to do everything you like.

So there you go, no more excuses for why you don't have time for Qigong!

Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin
