For too long, Black gay and bisexual men have carried heavy risks around HIV. Not long ago, the lifetime risk was 1 in 2. Today, there’s progress; it's closer to 1 in 3. Still, that’s far too many of our brothers, friends, and partners. By age 30, the risk is already 1 in 5. These numbers aren’t about choices; they reflect barriers to PrEP, testing, and affirming care. The good news? Together we can shift the story. Black women were diagnosed with HIV at rates 10 times higher than White women. Think about that. Ten times.

And this isn’t because Black women are doing anything “wrong.” It’s about access or the lack of it. Access to affordable healthcare. Access to prevention tools like PrEP. Access to safe, affirming spaces where stigma doesn’t keep people silent.

When we talk about HIV in our community, we have to talk about Black women. About mothers, daughters, sisters, friends. Women who carry so much already, and deserve resources, love, and protection, not judgment.

AfroPride is committed to showing up differently. To creating spaces for care, testing, and conversations that center our whole community, women included.

When family turns away, the consequences are devastating: LGBTQ youth who face rejection are 8× more likely to attempt su***de, and 3× more likely to be at risk for HIV or STIs. But rejection doesn’t define us; COMMUNITY DOES. We can be the love and support each other needs to thrive. AfroPride is building spaces where mental health and healing are front and center.
