Another photo from last summer's garden: Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmeria) Such a fairy plant with its fine white petals and wintergreen fragrance! People use the leaves and flowers to reduce pain and inflammation all over the body - much like aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids). Unlike these drugs that can be harsh on the stomach, meadowsweet acts as a strong protector of our gastric membranes - meadowsweet is specific for stomach pain and inflammation. You can also use it for musculoskeletal pain and inflammation (arthritis, sprains, muscle strains.) And also for headaches and fever.

Marshmallow (Althea officinalis) flowers from my garden last summer. This plant's name in Latin and Greek means "healer." And Marshmallow really lives up to her name! The cooling and nutritive mucilage extracted from her roots and leaves cools and heals all inflamed tissues that she comes into contact with - both inside and outside of the body. Her gentle power helps acid reflux, irritable coughs, ulceration anywhere along the G-I tract, skin wounds, the list goes on. I love the way this herb embodies the concept of gentle power.
