This May for Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re sending the message that no one’s mental health is fully supported until everyone’s mental health is fully supported. For our campaign, we’re encouraging everyone to take one simple action for their own and others’ mental ...

Gilpin County and Central City mourn the passing of two local Fire Fighters

It is with distraught and broken hearts that we report the death of two of our Central City Fire Department beloved firefighters. Lieutenant Cody Allen 29, and his wife, Volunteer Firefighter Shelby Allen 27, were found deceased in their home this morning in Central City, Colorado.

Cody Allen had been with the Central City Fire Department as a volunteer since July of 2009 and was recently hired full time to the position of lieutenant. Shelby Allen was a member of the Fire Department as a volunteer since February of 2016. Both Cody and Shelby’s families have been members of this community for many, many years. They grew up in Gilpin County, met, married two years ago, and were looking forward to raising their family right here in Gilpin.

Our hearts and prayers are with the Allen Family, Central City Fire Department Family, and our community at this devastating time.
The cause of death is still be investigated and pursued by the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office.

Spread this far and wide. This was copied and pasted from a friend.

I suffer from anxiety, PTSD, depression, hyper vigilance and I do get embarrassed of it and it's not a good place to be in. People don't believe me when I tell them because I am always happy and laughing round them and try to make others laugh. At times I do struggle. I can be hard to live with or to be around when I get this way and I know it. I try my best to control it and most of the time I succeed! I manage to get on top of it and control things, but at times I break. So if you see me and I am quiet or don't speak, I'm not upset with you nor have you upset me. I also do not mean to be rude, I may just need a minute to myself or a hug!
So please if you are my friend just bare with me!
It's ok to not be ok, tell someone you're not ok! It's ok! Everyone says: "If you need anything, don't hesitate, I'll be there for you"...
So I'm going to make a bet, without being pessimistic, I wish my friends that you will put this on your wall.
You just have to copy (not share)!!! I want to know who I can count on... Write "done" in comments when you do!
It's Mental Illness Awareness Month

The Thirsty Horse

Sometimes our trauma impairs our ability to know we're injured. All the help can be available to us, but if we don't know we're in trouble, how can we ask for support? Creating programs and trowing money at mental health programs for emergency workers isn't enough if it's not getting to the people who need it.

The fish won't jump in the boat when you're fishing; they need to be netted. Just like the dying horse in this image, we may not know what our recovery looks like, even if it's right on front of us. Why would this horse drink when he doesn't even know he's thirsty.

Proactive and preventative measures should be made to lower the non traumatic stressors like 'Station Stress'. When we're involved in potentially damaging calls, we shouldn't be asked if we need the CISM team; they should be activated automatically.

A big thanks to my EMS sister Jessica van der Hoek for helping me with this one.

Have a safe weekend, everyone.
Respectfully,

DanSun
