Leaf Filter installed gutters on the rectory and barn day before yesterday. The next morning a hard rain came, filling two 50 gallon and another 250 gallon storage tanks connected to the down spouts to the brim. Way cool! 👨🏼‍🌾

This shy little guy just showed up. Always hides behind his mom but I caught this brief shot. Only one or two days old I think. 👨🏼‍🌾

The twins are growing but the younger of the two—by about two days—still gets behind her big sister when moments seem uncertain 👨🏼‍🌾

The two recently hatched chicks are becoming bonded sisters. The largest one emerged about three days before the smaller who always tags after her big sister. Here they are bunking down for the night. The little one feels secure with one wing against the coop wall while the other brushes against her sister’s for reassurance. 👨🏼‍🌾

Look who showed up today! First hatchling since all the hens I have were hatched themselves here on Skylight. From the looks of things, more siblings are surely on the way. And that’s just one of the three nesting boxes, all equally populated.

Here’s a picture of Yashoda showing her strangely colored horns. No one has been able to explain to me why they lost half their length and turned reddish-brown. Lately she seemed to have stopped eating and was lethargically laying in one spot. Last night I noticed she was constantly bearing down like constipation was keeping her bound up. Assuming she may have eaten some bailing twine, I went out this morning to see if I could somehow fish out any possibly dangling ends to help remove the obstruction. Instead I grabbed hold of two tiny hooves, eventually pulling out a stillborn calf! She’s resting now and I’ll check later to see if some of her strength is returning.

Crazy weather day. Temp below freezing, strong winds blowing, early morning sleet has morphed into snow and it’s coming down heavy; may get a couple of inches still today. The birds are eating the seed I toss out as fast as they can even as the falling snow is covering it up. Brrrr!

Skylight got about six inches of that white and drifting snow stuff a couple of days ago as that really cold front dropped down from the north while lighter warm air from the gulf brought water with it. First sleet, then snow. Temps below freezing night and day although daytime temperatures should start climbing above freezing for a few hours soon. I just went out to feed the cattle and they seemed no worse for it; they are amazingly hardy beasts! I have kept the chickens cooped up (literally) for three days and just let them out. They’re not all that happy about the snow. They even have some frostbite on combs and wattles despite having a heater inside. I even found two eggs which I just put into the refrigerator to warm them up.
