Dr. Gaby Moawad is a board-certified gynecological surgeon and the founder of The Center for Endometriosis and Advanced Pelvic Surgery in Washington DC .us . Alongside his extensive experience in the field of Gynecologic Surgery and specialization in Minimally Invasive Gynecological procedures, Dr. Moawad excels in Laparoscopic and robotic techniques, using his many years of training and practice with his desire to impact patients’ lives positively.

Dr. Moawad has proven himself to be a passionate and effective educator for many years. As Director of Robotic Gynecologic Surgery, Fellowship Co-Director and an Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The George Washington University, he has demonstrated his commitment to the field by not only serving his patients, but also educating fellow medical professionals on how to safely approach the most complex conditions.

Being named Top Doctor in the Washington DC area from the year 2015 to 2023 by the Washingtonian and Castle Connely is just one of the many accolades and progress Dr. Moawad has seen through his career. He has received the AAGL Award for Excellence in Endoscopic Procedures from the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) and has also taken on the roles of AAGL Chair of Research Committee and Chair of Robotic Committee, simultaneously being nominated for the board of directors at AAGL and currently serves on the board of directors of the foundation of AAGL.

We are honored and thrilled to have Dr. Moawad as a resource to assist us in our mission to raise awareness, promote reliable education, and increase research funding for endometriosis!

Abdominal endometriosis is divided into Parietal Endometriosis (PE) and Visceral Endometriosis (VE).
PE lesions involved primary lesions of the abdominal wall, groin, and perineum. Surgical treatment for PE included wide local excision (97%), with 5% recurrence and no complications.

The diagnostic challenge in endometriosis is multifaceted.
Symptoms such as painful periods, painful s*x, painful bowel movements and infertility can be attributed to many conditions. In addition, these symptoms are often not discussed openly because of the fear of stigmatization.
Furthermore, awareness of the disease is poor on the part of the general public, employers, and persons in health care professions.
Finally, no clinically relevant biomarkers are available. As a result of all these factors, the average delay between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis is 7 years.
