Last night's wine tasting theme was "Pinot Grigio" and we had a fine selection of dry and semi-dry white, rosé and sparkling rosé Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris wines from France, Italy, Oregon, and New Zealand. The group's favorite was Te Pas Wines' Pinot Gris. Jürgen was our winner, guessing 4 out of 6 of the blinded wines, a nice come back from his tie breaker dance off defeat to Bonnie in March. A big shout out to the chefs. The food pairings were exceptional! It's always a fun time with this group. I'm looking forward to creating another excellent tasting for them this Fall.

Amazing wine pairing dinner at The Wine Bar in Miramar Beach. Wow! We were lucky to have two people cancel so we could get the last two seats. The food was amazing. The wine was fantastic! I can't recommend strongly enough the 2022 Stone Cote Chardonnay, the 2022 Lands End Pinot Noir and the Old Vine Zinfandel - which you will have to check back on. The Old Vine Zin vintage they advertised was unavailable, so another, better Zin was substituted. The picture I took of the bottle is blurry, so as soon as I get the better picture I will post it. Wow! Best Zin I've tasted. Have you ever had such a pure blackberry flavor in a Zin? This winery is by appointment only. A must visit when in Sonoma.

Tonight's wine tasting theme was "Other Reds". Have you tasted wines made from 100% Tannat, Carignan, Aglianico, Petit Verdot, Nerello Mascalese, Mencia, or Monastrell grapes? It was my pleasure to introduce the members of the JDI Wine Group to these varietals made by producers in Uruguay, Chile, Italy, and Spain. The crowd favorite was Bodega Garzon's Reserve Tannat. Bonnie was the night's winner, guessing 4 out of 6 of the blinded wines. Since it was St. Patrick's Day weekend everyone wore something green, and the meat and non-meat appetizers were not only delicious, they created a menu that offered choices for both Lent and non-Lent practitioners. It's always a fun time with this group. I'm looking forward to creating another excellent tasting for them in May.

Tempranillo was the theme, so I was pouring Riojas and my own tempranillo blend - Praetorian Reserve. This was one of the JDI wine group's favorite tastings. The Spanish tapas the group made paired beautifully with the wines. Congratulations to Peggy, Jim's 92 year old mom, who was visiting and showed the group how it's done, guessing 4 out of 6 wines correctly!

For nearly 500 years, visitors to this romantic Renaissance city have sipped Tuscan wines from buchette di vino, tiny openings in the walls of palazzos.
