We have moved!!! We recently moved our office and are now located at 200 Northparke Dr. in Findlay at one of the offices within Findlay Warehouse. We have our own waiting room and plenty of parking! Be watching for Summer Speech Info coming out in the next couple weeks!

🗞️🗞️ Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Take 20 minutes a day to read to your child and they will hear 1,800,000 words in a year! 🤯The more words they hear, the more words they know. And I want to let you in on a few secrets. 🤫 It doesn't have to be all in one sitting. At a young age your child will likely not sit for that full time, and that's okay.👍 Make it a goal to work up to trying to get through 1 book. 📖 This will also help to increase their attention span. Also... 🤫 at first the child may not be interested in the story and be able to attend and will be more interested in turning pages. Point and talk about the pictures 🖼️ this helps to make brain connections between what they see 👀 and what they hear👂. Finally, if you sit down with your child and a book, you cannot do it wrong, you are already winning! 🏆

Blocks or Book? 📖 Nuggets or Burger? 🍔 As a parent we quickly learn what our children like 👍 and dislike 👎and can quickly anticipate their wants, and provide them with whatever snack or toy they want...without them even having to ask. 🫶 This is great, and especially saves time during busy parts of the day; but if you are always anticipating their needs then your child is never having to use vocabulary to name items. So when time allows, offer choices. Offering choices has multiple benefits.
1.) The child will be motivated to start to use the vocabulary as they are verbalizing their wants. They will realize their words have power. 🗣️
2.) The child will begin to understand answering open ended wh-questions. “What do you want to play?” 🤷🏼‍♀️
3.) The child will feel control over the situation. Sometimes for older children both items may be undesired “Clean your room.” or “Read your book.” Although both have to be done by offering choices of which to do first, the child now feels that it is up to them, rather than you just telling them what to do. 🙃
4.) Offering choices can also help avoid frustration of not knowing what they want. For the times when you provide a banana to your daughter and she has decided that after a week straight of eating bananas that she no longer likes them.😉

Nobody wants to sit down and do drill work of something that is hard for them. 😞However, if you can earn a reward for each hard task it makes it seem not so bad, and actually you may be willing to do more hard work knowing you have a reward coming. 🏆 Be honest we even like this as adults. 😉 This works great for kids when using things like magnetic tiles, legos, beads. In speech we often do this: roll a dice so there is no arguing how many, whatever the number that is how many they have to do and how many items they earn. 🎲 Many times I will even get kids "cheating" to roll a 6 just so they can get more pieces!! 🤗It can be used for artic sounds, sight words, pages in a book, math flash cards, etc.

Haley Le Roy is another of Bee Heard’s Speech Language Pathologists. She is in her second year as a practicing SLP with the Hancock County schools and is our newest addition to the private practice! She chose this field because she has worked with children with developmental disabilities, particularly those with autism, and has become very passionate about helping those children learn to communicate effectively. Haley’s favorite part of the job is seeing the joy that her clients get when they learn a new skill.

Haley is licensed by the Ohio Speech & Hearing Professionals Board and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She earned both of her degrees from BGSU.

She lives in Findlay with her husband Marc and their dog, Duke.

Kenzie Leonard is the English as a Second Language teacher of the group! She has been an ESL teacher in schools for 5 years and has been doing private lessons for about a year now. Kenzie loves working with both adults and children who are developing their language. She has had a passion for learning about the cultures of the world since 1st grade! She chose to teach ESL because of that passion, paired with her love for helping others and her fascination with the structure of language. Her favorite part of teaching ESL is seeing her students begin to understand and participate in the English-speaking world around them!

Kenzie is licensed in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages by the state of Ohio. She finished her undergraduate studies in TESOL at THE Ohio State University and earned her Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction, as well as her Reading Endorsement, at BGSU.

Kenzie lives in Findlay with her husband Zane and their fluffy child, Bonzo.

Brooke Anspach is the leader of our hive and one of our Speech Language Pathologists! She has been a school SLP for 6 years and has done private services for 4. She offers private services so that she can provide affordable therapy and support for families in the area. Brooke chose this field because of her love for children as well as her interest in the science behind communication. Her favorite part of the job is when a child finally achieves what they have been working hard for!

Brooke is licensed by Ohio Speech & Hearing Professionals Board and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She is a graduate of BGSU with both her bachelor’s and master’s in speech language pathology; as well as a graduate certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Brooke lives outside Findlay with her husband, Brandon, and their 8 month old daughter, Brylie.
