Sometimes, a patient’s spine may be aligned, but the patient is still experiencing symptoms of discomfort, most commonly related to carpal tunnel or posture.

In cases of this sort, what we tend to observe is that joints elsewhere in the body are causing undue pressure on the spine, which in turn limits bodily mobility.

To treat this effectively, we use a technique called Extremity Manipulation to align the affected joints outside the spinal area.

We chiropractors owe a great debt to this man here, Clarence Gonstead, founder of the Gonstead technique, and the first chiropractor to bring our practice from obscurity to a recognizable bio-medical science.

Thank you, Mr. Gonstead! :)

Did you know that concussion symptoms can be directly related to a lingering neck injury?

When a person sustains a concussive injury to the brain, the concussion occurs through the rapid acceleration and deceleration of the brain at the point of impact.

But, at the same time the brain is impacted, the neck moves with it, which results in whiplash.

So, when concussion symptoms don’t subside after 2-4 weeks as they normally do, it may be because you haven’t yet treated the injury to your neck.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing persistent concussion symptoms, come visit us and we’d be happy to work through some exercises with you that you can do from home!

When should you seek chiropractic treatment?

Great question.

Simply put, if your days are harder than they need to be due to back pain, neck pain, headache, whiplash, or any other type of pain attributable to spinal cord misalignment…

Chances are, chiropractic care can help.

And remember, in the medical community we observe maintenance and prevention over mere solution.

Regular chiropractic visits can preserve healthy spine and joint function, and keep you feeling your best for years to come :)

It’s not just a visit, it’s an experience.

Here are some tips and tricks to make the most of your visit to the chiropractor — and get the best bang for your buck, too!

Reflect on your reasons for going to the chiropractor.

1. Pain can cloud your judgment.

When every joint, tendon, and muscle in your body is screaming in pain, it’s hard to know what problem to start with. When you figure out what’s giving you the most trouble, you and your chiropractor can identify a starting point, and get a plan in motion — to get you back in motion!

2. Be transparent with your chiropractor.

While it’s important to note that chiropractic adjustments can cause some initial discomfort, their purpose is to relieve your pain, not cause more of it. If certain mobilizations or manipulations are making your pain worse, it’s crucial that you tell your chiropractor so they can adjust their treatment plan accordingly!

3. Follow your chiropractor’s instructions.

Most people leave their chiro appointments feeling relieved and relaxed. However, that relief can be temporary if you fall back into your bad habits like poor posture and excessively straining your body.

So do what your chiropractor tells you, whether that’s stretching between sessions, doing hot and cold therapy, or resting. Following your chiro’s instructions will ensure you get the most out of each session :)

Before we work any magic on our patients, we strive to make sure that we understand them and their unique situations – everybody is different, and what might work on some may not work on others.

In a nutshell, our process looks like this:

First, we conduct a thorough medical history of the patient.

Then, we look at your vital signs – namely body temperature, pulse, breathing rate, and blood pressure.

After that, we visually inspect for spinal curves or other visible health indicators.

Once we’ve inspected visually, we use our hands to feel out your spine and the muscles and other soft tissues that support it.

Lastly, we conduct orthopedic and neurological examinations – fancy terms for assessing the function of your spine, joints, and muscles, and the function of your motor and sensory systems.

We are quite thorough ;)
