✨ Speech milestones every parent should know! ✨
🔹 2-3 years old: Familiar listeners should be able to understand ~50-75% of what your child says.
🔹 4 years old: Anyone should understand at least half of what your child says.
🔹 5 years old: Most children can pronounce almost all speech sounds.

Speech development happens over time, and some bumps in the road are totally normal. But if your child is struggling to be understood, connecting with a speech therapist early can make a world of difference! 🌟

That's the perfect opportunity to teach new communication strategies! The next time you read with your child, try saying these words and phrases. After you've taught these new words for a while, try pausing for 5-10 seconds to see if your child says them on their own.

The first three years are a huge time for brain development—and by age 3, your child’s speech and language skills should really be taking off.

You might feel rushed to get your toddler ready every morning, but these are some simple words & phrases you can teach that make a big difference! 🌟

👚 Let's explore some ways you can teach your toddler to talk while getting dressed:

1) Model the words & phrases in this picture - repetition is key!

2) Encourage communication & independence by "forgetting" to give necessary items or offer help - give shoes without socks, wait 5-10 seconds before helping with a zipper or button

3) Describe the process - we're putting your shirt ON, step IN to your shorts and pull UP

4) Give choices - hold up two shirts or pairs of shoes and let them pick

A child’s expressive vocabulary develops rapidly within the first 5 years of life. 🧒🏽 By the time their first birthday rolls around, most children have an average of 5 words they can say independently and use consistently.
