During Spring & Summer 2024, I wasn't exactly lost, but I knew I wasn't home either...
Nine months ago I joined .old.farms on the same day as registration and jumped right into meeting 150 new students and families. The coming days would add another 250 students and their families. Then I inherited a team of Peer Counselors and Mental Health Club full of young men eager to support their brothers.
Avon Old Farms welcomed me and embraced how I approached this role. Being a mental health practitioner in this community requires flexibility and cannot be rigid or black-and-white boundaries. It's nuanced and connected in a way that some practitioners don't know how or are uncomfortable doing. My career and life experiences seemed to tailor me to this community.
And then there's my son. As a mom, watching G gravitate to the boys (special shout out to Ben and Owen) and crave time here was magical.
I found more than a job. More than my next professional stop. I found community and connection that is deep and meaningful.
AOF, thank you for an amazing first year. Here's to many more!
