Pressure & depth matters.
Plenty often people feel it’s required to just dig in there and get after whatever pain area to make it feel better. It may indeed feel better in the moment, but will it provide long lasting relief? Sometimes. But, also sometimes less is more. Matching the pressure, or providing less input is exactly what’s needed to get that area to melt and allow the brain to no longer find that area a threat. Going in with too much might make the body brace harder. Muscles are layered over the top of each other with varying fiber directions - depth and precision matter.
The ultimate goal is for me to facilitate the change by honoring what the body and nervous system need in that given situation. Sometimes it’s less pressure. Sometimes it’s more pressure.
Ps: this also applies to self soft tissue release work via foam roller, massage balls, etc.
