We’re back!!!!

Well, we didn’t leave, but we took some time to reflect on our mission, vision, and values. We needed to ensure that our programs, activities, and operations were in alignment with our founding purpose.

Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing our call to come back and nurture our roots!

Latina curanderas have preserved healing traditions blending Indigenous, African, and European practices.

These women healers use herbs like yerba buena and spiritual cleansing rituals called “limpias” that now influence integrative medicine approaches.

Curanderas served multiple roles in their communities as parteras (midwives), sobadoras (folk chiropractors), and yerberas (herbalists), providing holistic care that addressed physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.

Native and/or Indigenous women have preserved wellness traditions deeply connected to the earth.

Practices like smudging with sacred herbs such as sage, sweetgrass, and cedar have been used for centuries for spiritual cleansing and healing.

Traditional plant medicine knowledge passed through generations of Indigenous women has influenced modern herbalism and natural remedies.

The Indigenous concept of wellness encompasses harmony with nature, community wellbeing, and spiritual balance—principles now embraced in holistic health movements.

Learn More: Explore resources like the American Botanical Council, books such as “A Handbook of Native American Herbs,” or consider courses at institutions like Native Roots Healing School in Taos, New Mexico, which honors elders and traditional knowledge.
