When I first heard Lynn Carnes talk she was on Warwick Schiller's Journey On Podcast. I was in awe of her raw honesty around her relationship struggles with her daughter Jen. It was what drew me to her. I then got to meet Jen at the beginning of this year and was so impressed with her. She is a smart and empathetic human being. She and Lynn have a relationship now that feels, from my end, full of mutual love and respect. The three of us talked about how our life traumas can really shape our relationships.
My daughter Lauren and I have had to find our way too, working to hold space for each other while trying not to fall into old unhealthy patterns. That creating of space does not mean we are pulling away from each other, though that can be the limiting belief. Enmeshed or co-dependent relationships can disguise themselves as "being close" when they can actually lead to less true connection.
The 4 of us decided that if these conversations were beneficial to us, maybe other people would benefit from creating a supportive space to have them together. The winding path that parents and adult children walk together is forever evolving.
If this sounds like something you want to be a part of, just click on the Eventbrite link and sign up. This is a FREE EVENT.
Side note: I think this conversation would benefit any parent and adult child dynamic and is open to everyone.
