Unfortunately, there still exists a stigma among many for getting treatment for mental health conditions such as depression. Core ideas of Dialectic Behavior Therapy – DBT

- Mindfulness
- Distress Tolerance
- Emotion Regulation
- Interpersonal Effectiveness

“Mindfulness is one of the core ideas behind all elements of DBT. It is considered a foundation for the other skills taught in DBT, because it helps individuals accept and tolerate the powerful emotions they may feel when challenging their habits or exposing themselves to upsetting situations.”

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

DBT is a form of psychotherapy designed for helping people who have difficulty regulating emotions.
It was originally intended for dealing with suicidal behaviors, but now has evolved to treat other mental health situations such as personality disorders and anxiety disorders.

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced the Medical University of South Carolina to suspend clinical rotations used to train students in health care settings, Alan Snyder had an idea.

Using an artificial intelligence model, Snyder combined Census tract information with the MUSC patient database to identify thousands of adults who faced a high risk of developing serious complications should they contract COVID-19.

But this was just the start.

“The stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic can and is having an effect on people’s physical and mental health. During this time, it is important to do what we can to maintain self-care and manage the stress. I would suggest this for everyone coping at home as well as those who are still in their workplaces by necessity, especially the health care professionals on the front lines of this pandemic.”

St. Gianna Beretta Molla is a powerful patron for pregnant and parenting mothers during this pandemic. St. Gianna herself lived through a pandemic, the Spanish Influenza, which took the lives of three of her siblings. And as a physician, wife, and mother, she knew intimately what it was like to struggle with a challenging medical diagnosis during pregnancy.⠀

Consider praying with Saint Gianna, to support mothers in need, and for an end to COVID-19! You can participate in the novena here: walkingwithmoms.com/saint-gianna-novena⠀

As defined by the Institute for Functional Medicine:
The Functional Medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors and leverages that data to direct personalized treatment plans that lead to improved patient outcomes.

By addressing root cause, rather than symptoms, practitioners become oriented to identifying the complexity of disease. They may find one condition has many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, Functional Medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual.

For me, it means CARE, more than just seeing the patient and it's symptoms, I care about the patient as a whole person, with stories, memories, traumas, achievements, fears, losses, goals, all affecting the health, whether consciously or unconsciously. Functional Medicine means going further than prescribing a medication, it means caring about the past, present and most important the future well being of a patient. ♥️ 👨‍⚕️
