This morning I shared something with the entire CAREOSITY team and I’d like to share it with you all now.
“Well done is better than well said.”
- Benjamin Franklin
This Fourth of July, as we celebrate the bold declaration that birthed our nation, let's look beyond the fireworks and festivities to the very spirit that fueled it. It’s a spirit captured perfectly by Benjamin Franklin, not in a declaration of war, but in a quiet, powerful principle for life: “Well done is better than well said.”
Think about that. Our world is awash in words, a constant stream of opinions, promises, and intentions. We can talk about change, dream of progress, and speak of the life we wish to lead. But words alone are ghosts. They are echoes in a hall, waiting for a body, for a force to make them real. That force is you.
True independence isn't a single event we celebrate; it's a daily act of creation. It is the quiet courage to close the gap between what you say and what you do. This is the ultimate form of self-reliance. It’s the decision to be the architect of your life, not merely its narrator.
Action is the currency of reality. It doesn't negotiate with your fleeting moods or wait for the perfect conditions. It simply asks for your will. It is the silent, steady effort when no one is watching. It is the integrity to build, to solve, to serve, and to create, simply because you have declared it so. This is the engine of a free life.
The independence of America was forged by individuals who chose to act—to risk, to build, to sacrifice. Your personal independence is forged in the exact same way. It is earned in the moments you choose to do, rather than say.
So tonight, when the day is done and you meet your own reflection, let your first thought be a quiet acknowledgment of your own power. See the proof of your efforts, no matter how small. Recognize the strength in your hands and the resolve in your heart.
This Independence Day, celebrate something truly revolutionary: your own power to act. Celebrate the freedom you forge not with declarations, but with deeds. Go beyond celebrating the birth of a nation, and honor the daily birth of your own hard-won, beautiful independence.
For in the mirror of your own actions, you will find the truest freedom of all. Declare to yourself, "Well done."
Be well,
