The NRV Agency on Aging will hold their 13th Annual Caregivers Conference on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Edwards Hall on the New River Community College Campus in Dublin, Virginia.

This is a day full of support, education and community for caregivers. This year's theme is "The Changing Wave of Caregiving", and our Keynote Speaker will be Joseph Lugo, from the Beard Center on Aging, at the University of Lynchburg.

There will be over 50 service providers and industry professionals in attendance and ready to share information about planning, personal care, helpful equipment, and other resources available to make the caregiving journey easier. There will also be several classrooms providing vital information for navigating caregiving challenges.

Attendance is free for all family and volunteer caregivers, and just $35 for professional caregivers. Registration is required and begins in April.

This Fourth of July, as we celebrate the bold declaration that birthed our nation, let's look beyond the fireworks and festivities to the very spirit that fueled it. It’s a spirit captured perfectly by Benjamin Franklin, not in a declaration of war, but in a quiet, powerful principle for life: “Well done is better than well said.”

Think about that. Our world is awash in words, a constant stream of opinions, promises, and intentions. We can talk about change, dream of progress, and speak of the life we wish to lead. But words alone are ghosts. They are echoes in a hall, waiting for a body, for a force to make them real. That force is you.

True independence isn't a single event we celebrate; it's a daily act of creation. It is the quiet courage to close the gap between what you say and what you do. This is the ultimate form of self-reliance. It’s the decision to be the architect of your life, not merely its narrator.

It was our profound honor and privilege to serve Pam and her beautiful family during their time of need. In our line of work, we are often reminded that life, in its most tender and vulnerable moments, has a way of weaving strangers together, creating a tapestry of support and shared humanity.

The journey of life, with its inevitable hardships and endings, can be a daunting path to walk. Yet, in the midst of sorrow, a quiet strength emerges, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. It is in these moments of farewell that we are reminded of the preciousness of connection and the unexpected blessings that can arise from shared grief. Acknowledging the pain of loss while celebrating a life lived is a sacred balance, one that we were humbled to witness with Pam's family.

As we reflect on our time with them, this sentiment resonates deeply:

"In the quiet acceptance of an ending, there is a profound and unexpected beginning. For in the shared space of sorrow, strangers become family, and hearts, though heavy, learn to beat in unison, creating a chorus of love that transcends the silence of loss. Hardship, then, is not just a burden to be borne, but a sacred ground upon which the seeds of compassion are sown, blooming into the most beautiful and unlikely of fellowships."

To Pam's family, thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you. Your grace and strength were a testament to the love that surrounds you. May you find comfort in the memories you cherish and the unexpected bonds that have been forged in this difficult time.
