FPSR is thrilled to welcome our newest Physician's Assistant, Kathleen (Kiki) Winkert, PA-C. Kiki was born and raised in Northern Virginia and attended James Madison University where she graduated magna cm laude with a degree in Health Science. Before PA school, she had the opportunity to work as a medical assistant in pediatrics and orthopedic medicine. She attended Mary Baldwin University for her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies where she served as her program’s Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants student representative.
Kiki’s passion for holistic care has driven her to a career in family medicine. She believes that effective patient-centered care begins with actively listening to her patients and understanding their concerns, values, and goals. By fostering a strong provider-patient relationship built on trust and respect, she collaborates with her patients to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their individual lifestyles.
Her clinical interests and experiences include nutrition, exercise, and office-based procedures. Kiki especially enjoyed her time training in aesthetic medicine learning the practice of injectables. She is dedicated to staying up to date on all the ways science can make her patients feel their best inside and out.
Outside of medicine, Kiki enjoys running and exercise classes, visiting new restaurants and going to the movies with her family and friends. So far, she has loved experiencing all Richmond has to offer. Find her on Saturdays at the local farmers market!
Kiki is currently accepting patients. She is eager to meet you and partner with you in good health. Call today to schedule an appointment. (804) 330-3335

Did you know that a large percentage of the population is chronically dehydrated? It is believed that anywhere up to 75% of Americans spend the majority of their time dehydrated.
“Hydration is critically important to our health. Water makes up around 75% of our bodies and it is used in countless crucial functions throughout the body. Water acts as an important catalyst for a number of chemical reactions (including working as an enzyme in order to aid with the digestion of food) and forms the basis of everything from neurotransmitters to our blood.”
If you aren’t getting enough water, then this will affect nearly every part of your body – from your skin and hair to your teeth and nails. And you’ll feel low on energy, struggle with a poor mood and generally not operate at 100%. It is important to know the roles of water and some of the most telling signs that you may be dehydrated. Listed below are 3 of the top side effects of being dehydrated.
-Yellow Urine
If your urine appears a strong orange or yellow color, this is a sign that you might be dehydrated. This happens because the urine is not as diluted as it would be if you had more water in your system.
It is important to consider that there are other things that can cause urine to become discolored – such as certain medications or even vitamin supplements and some foods.
If you have had a long day and you can’t remember the last time you had a drink… then you know what is likely going on!
-Constipation
Dehydration is one of the most common causes of constipation. That’s because dehydration causes stool to become dried out, which in turn prevents it from passing through the bowels.
Drinking more water is actually one of the best ways to solve constipation, as is consuming any food that is high in oils such as fish or avocado – this can help to lubricate the stool and encourage it to pass.
Prunes are also beneficial. Not only does the insoluble fiber break up the trapped stool but the sorbitol content causes the stool to absorb more fluid.
- Headaches
A headache can have a multitude of causes but one of the most common is for it to be caused by dehydration. When the brain is dehydrated this can actually cause it to shrink due to the lost fluid – just like a sponge. This then causes the brain to pull away from the skull, resulting in discomfort and difficulty thinking.
Combine this with the lack of water needed for countless chemical reactions and you have a recipe for headache, brain fog and generally poor cognitive performance.
Other symptoms may include:
• Fatigue
• Dry Mouth
• Increased thirst
• Decreased urination
• Less tear production
• Dry skin
• Dizziness
• Lightheadedness

Since 1994, when FPSR first opened its doors, there have been many employee changes, except for one: Cindy Swim. Cindy accepted a job with Dr. Miller in his former practice, and when he started FPSR, she came along as the administrator and has been instrumental in the success of this practice ever since.
Cindy has worked tirelessly over the years to make sure that the practice ran smoothly and to ensure that our patients were treated fairly and taken care of in a kind manner. Her job has not been easy, for many reasons, but she has always managed to show grace and respect to our staff and to our patients.
So, why am I writing about her today? It is because on Friday, June 2, we will celebrate her retirement. She has decided to step out of her chair (that only she has sat in since 1994) and move to the coast. It has not been an easy decision for her to leave the company and people she has been with for most of her adult life. Though we are sad to see her leave, we are excited for her to be able to retire at the beach. To say she will be missed is an understatement.
She is a great manager, great leader, and a great co-worker. So if you are in the office in the next few days, you may see some red, teary eyes as she transitions into her life of leisure!
It sure will be different here without Cindy. Best wishes for a happy retirement and Thank You for all that you have done! You are the best!!

Happy Anniversary FPSR!! On November 1, 1994, Family Practice Specialists of Richmond, PC opened it's doors to patients for the very first time. Dr. Miller, one Physician's Assistant, and a small support staff worked in the small office located on the Johnston-Willis Hospital campus. The office hours were 7 am until 7 pm, Monday-Friday and half day on Saturdays. Long hours, but necessary to provide health care to a growing number of patients. Many of those first patients are still patients to this day. Dr.
Siedlecki joined the practice four years later in July of 1998. He quickly built a strong patient base and became part owner a couple of years later.
Through the hard work of Drs. Miller and Siedlecki and dedicated staff, the practice grew quickly, hired more talented and gifted providers, offered more on-site services, and won recognition in the community as being one of the best primary care
offices in the area. So November 1 of each year, we celebrate Employee Appreciation Day to thank those who made the growth and success possible. We thank you!!
