Hello Everyone! I think it’s time I reintroduce myself.
My name is Gaby, the owner and founder of Creative Speech Therapy.
I am a board certified and ASHA credentialed bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist.
I began working as a Speech Language Pathologist at a Speech and Language center in Florida in 2009 where I gained experience working with children with speech and language delays as well as children with a variety of developmental and genetic disorders. Since then I have worked for a variety of pediatric and adult settings including schools, hospitals and homes where I evaluated and treated children and adults with a range of diagnoses. Throughout the years I have gained experience in diagnosing and treating a variety of developmental, acquired, and genetic disorders in both children and adults.
I am currently providing screenings, evaluations and treatment therapy for patients in their home or school setting.
I have a passion for my profession and a desire to continue educating myself and applying new evidence based strategies to better support my patients, their families and those who support them. I love what I do 💜

Servicing: Cutler Bay, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest and Homestead areas.

How can you help your birth to 3 months old learn to communicate?

🌟talk as much as you can to your baby during the day. Respond to your baby’s attempt to communicate with you. Look at them when they make a sound, react to their sounds, imitate the sounds they make.

🌟teach them conversational turn taking skills. You can do this by talking to your baby. Talk, pause and wait for them to make a sound or smile. Talk again. This is how we take turns in conversation. Show them how it’s done.

🌟imitate your baby’s facial expressions and laughter.

🌟babies learn best by listening to you talk, sing and read.

From birth to toddler years the best thing you can do is talk A LOT to your child. That’s how they learn.

Starting at birth you are given many opportunities to check your child’s hearing at home.

Often a hearing screening is given at birth however, over time things happen and develop that can affect your child’s ability to hear clearly which can then impact your child’s ability to imitate your modeled language effectively and appropriately.

Thats why I recommend to continue checking your child’s hearing at home.

✅does your child turn to noises or sounds around them?
✅does he/she look at you when you talk?
🛑pay attention to ear problems and infections.

The build up of fluids due to congestion/colds can cause hearing blockage. This happens often with those little ones who don’t know how to blow their nose. Make sure to suction them as often as possible.

Check with your doctor too if infections or other ear problems occur. There may be an underlining issue to address.

Your doctor may refer you to an audiologist. They specialize in the anatomy and functions of the ear.

What counts as a word? Often after I describe to parents this answer they brighten up. It’s because they had no idea that their child actually had more words than they thought. It’s exciting to know this!🥰💜
🌟Word approximations such as “da” for dog, “ma” for more count as a word only if used consistently when communicating.
🌟Exclamatory words: Yay! Whoa! oh no! Uh oh! Boom! These are such fun words and also count as a word.
🌟Animal sounds: baaa, mooo, meow, bzzz
🌟Sign Language: more, eat, all done
🌟Words in other languages: si, yes, wi wi
