When someone who is sober passes a lot of times people have questions! Was he still sober? Did he fall off the wagon? What happened?

I post this and I would hope someone would do this for me one day if the circumstances were the same. We lost one of our own this week to a terrible Illness. On Monday he was doing his job, a sacrifice in itself, He was driving other sober guys to work and back as he did most days. He had been a valuable employee to us since 2021, never missing a day of work and even received an award for safe driving just last month.

That same day he went to the hospital not feeling well and he received some news nobody wants to hear. He was diagnosed with an Illness and was admitted for some testing.

Here is how serious he was about his sobriety. He argued with the doctors and refused to go onto a pain management program! He didn't want to chance loosing his sobriety.

Driving for the Turning Point you are on the front lines. You are the one the guys talk to when they have a bad day or just not feeling it. I'm sure there are a lot of guy that benefitted from being on his van.

One of the most dignified things a man can do is find out his time on earth is short and still stay sober! He will truly be missed!

We would like to give a huge shout out to Demetrius Dover who not only just celebrated a year at our facility he also just purchased this beautiful car.
He is also a candidate for our graduate program called " The Milestone Program" but he has made the decision to stick around The Turning Point of South Carolina just a bit longer until he feels more secure having a new found freedom.
Most men would not be willing to admit they needed a little more time before making the big step into more freedoms. We commend him for this!
Below is a few words from him about his journey and we would ask that you guys show him some love and support!

"After one year at Turning Point, I now have a good job and a car I bought on my own. Coming to Turning Point was the best decision I ever made and all the good things happening in my life are only the beginning.
After a life of hopelessness, shame and embarrassment due to my addiction I was powerless. Out of prison, I kept digging deeper and deeper. I came to Turning Point and decided to “stick
and stay”. I set small goals for myself and met them one after another, constantly setting new ones. I am still pushing, going to meetings, and gaining strength by sharing my story and
listening to others.
With my focus on my recovery, I pay my bills and take care of my family. My faith in God helps me stay at Turning Point and do the things I never imagined were possible in my life."

Congratulations Demetrius!

Today is a milestone day for one of our men who is moving into the next phase of his recovery.
Some people make excuses when they fail and blame the people who are trying to help them like their counselors, therapist or facilities they are at trying to better themselves.
You get out of your recovery what you put into it. Let me say that again. You get out of your recovery what you put into it. It’s not someone else’s fault when you slip.
This guy that I’m talking about today is one of the most humble residents we have ever had come through our facility. He put his head down and went to work on himself. He went to work regularly basis and went to 12 step meetings. He exercised and lifted weights regularly. He volunteered and help out around the facility and I have never heard his name come up in any bull the entire time he’s been with us, all 938 days!
Nobody said it would be easy, but it will be worth it.
He’s kept his nose clean kept to himself and just recently obtained his drivers license and purchased a car.
Today he’s moving into one of our graduate houses with two other men who have completed the requirements to move into this phase of their recovery.
Shaun is so humble I had to ask him several times to get his picture in his new ride as he was moving his belongings out of Turning Point and into the Milestone Program.
Y’all help me say congratulations to Shaun who is a shining example of how you should work for your recovery. It’s been a pleasure having you at 24 Bruce road!

This is from one of the good guys. You know.. The one like your sponsor tells you that you should be hanging out with when you're trying to get sober.

If ya'll know or see Michael congratulate him on this milestone in his journey. Congratulations Michael keep up the good work!

After years deep into he**in addiction, I was suffering failed relationships, family issues, derailed careers, depression and the desperation most addicts eventually face.I was in and out of numerous detox centers, rehabs and treatment facilities before coming to Turning Point about a year ago. I came to Turning Point with little more than the shirt on my back and began working at a plant processing fruits and vegetables. Next, I found a sponsor, someone who had completed the Turning Point program 16 years prior, and was willing to share his experience, strength and hope with me. This sponsor chose to share what had been so freely given to him years ago as he sought his own recovery by helping me set and accomplish goals for myself. One day at a time, I worked the 12 steps, performed at my job, followed the Turning Point guidelines and focused on my journey to recovery. After 90 days at my initial job, I was able to obtain a job at a major manufacturing plant in Greenville and began developing a new career. I was able to stabilize myself financially and even purchase a truck. I have now been clean and sober for 16 months and will soon be hired on as a full
time employee at my job. I am currently focused on restoring my credit and fortifying my recovery which will enable me to achieve my next goal of purchasing a home to live in with my family.
