Home birth transfer. Nobody wants it or envisions it.

But here me loud and clear -

YOU
DID
NOT
FAIL

For most low-risk mothers out of hospital births are safe and have a ton of benefits. And we should always have a backup plan. Births can easily go from Plan A - to Plan B - to sometimes Plan C. Flexibility and support are key.

With a skilled midwife the goal is to transfer *before* an emergency - I like to call them "yellow flags". They monitor several things and chart just as a nurse does - and when something seems "off" we discuss our options and what's best instead of waiting until there's a real emergency. That can look like many things - baby's heart tones, baby's position, dilation, mama's health, mama's endurance, and more...

I think this a common misconception with home births 1) you failed 2) it's unsafe. Unfortunately not all midwifery practices are the same and some have given them a bad name. Overtime, though, the home/hospital relationship is getting better and it makes me SO happy to see - this mama was completely treated with respect and her OB was 100% supportive in still helping this mama achieve her goal of a vaginal delivery. Her nurse was amazing, and I was able to stay with her as her doula after mannnnyyyy hours of labor - she worked so. stinking. hard. Her midwife was also treated with respect as she transferred care. Women birthing at home will never cease so a positive relationship can only be beneficial.

Breech is just another variation of normal!
Having Birth Choices is a Human Right!

A glorious day for birth choices, informed consent, respecting autonomy in decision making and for this family. This home schooling mom had two previous cesarean sections when she found out she was pregnant with Di-Di Twins. Her Orange County midwife referred her to as pretty much her only option for a trial of labor. She really didn’t want another cesarean and needless to say there was not much support for her coming from the hospital based world. Early this morning, at 37 weeks, she and her husband and two sons welcomed these twins at home just before dawn. Baby boy A was breech. Baby girl B came head first 35 minutes later. Such an honor. We are all totally jazzed! 💞👶🏻👶🏻💞

Beautiful image in celebration of a beautiful purpose 🤱 Did you know it’s ? The mission of the Native Breastfeeding Week community is to reflect on the diversity of Native Breastfeeding experiences while lifting its visibility.

Here’s are some powerful words from Breanne as a part of the Indigenous Motherhood+Breastfeeding Series captured by 🌻

“My name is Breanne Head from James Smith Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. I’m a 23 year old first time Mother who gave birth to my handsome Son, Zachariah Ezra Stoney Head. My partners name is Chaquille Stoney from Yellow Quill First Nation, SK. I’m a full time Mommy to my 2 month Son going on 3 months on June 16th. Breastfeeding to me is very peaceful. It brings joy to me & my Son knowing that he has everything that he needs, growing strong and healthy. When I gave birth to my Son, when I very first held him, he changed my life. When I very first heard him cry. It brought tears to my eyes and warmed my heart. I wouldn’t ask for anything to change this life. I love every moment I spend with my Son. He is a true angel that Creator gifted me. The bond that me and my Son have no one could understand. After I’m done breastfeeding my Son he has this big smile on his face and that tells me he’s nice and full also happy. Breastfeeding to me is the most greatest bond you can have with your newborn. I’m very thankful he choose me to be his Mother and I’m very proud to be breastfeeding him too.

I’m a first time Mommy to a 2 month handsome Son and my breastfeeding journey is going great for the both of us.”

B***y The Baby!

Breastfeeding is the best way to protect your baby!

Breastfeeding mothers do not seem to be passing on the new coronavirus to their infants, and based on current evidence the benefits outweigh any potential risks of transmission, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.
