Back in 2018 i got in contact with Dr. Baayeh for advice on stomach bacteria. She was able to give me so many tips on western medicine vs natural medicine. She also explained to me how i could use the natural medicine i already had at home so i didn't have to buy new medicine. After i started applying the tips she gave me to my life style, i was able to bring back a balance in my stomach bacteria and manage acid reflux by understanding my trigger foods.

Infertility/ difficulty conceiving has become a very common issue and we now know that causes are 50% / 50% between men and women.
When I work with couples trying to conceive, I always start with nutrition. This is after ruling out possible causes.

Generally, a healthy diet will benefit fertility in both men and women, but these are some of the researched foods that will particularly benefit women.

Let your food be your medicine!

Atadwe, aka tiger nut is a very popular nut in Western Africa, but did you know that it has many many health benefits as well. Yes!!! The creator did not gift us this nut by mistake!
Our ancestors have known about these benefits and passed them down to us but recently scientists have confirmed these!

It benefits men, women and children but I highlight how it benefits men in this video!!

Listen…. I am not saying don’t enjoy your cup of coffee in the morning but keep in mind that moderation is key!

Also, caffeine affects everyone differently based on your genes and state of your liver’s detox pathways so if you are experiencing some of these symptoms, try cutting back or eliminating coffee for a while and see how you feel….

Happy Friday!!

Alasa fruit, also known as African star apple is currently in season and my niece and I picked a few from the neighbors.
If you ever had this fruit, you will never forget the taste! Plus when you chew the fruit, you end up with gum!

It has soo many health benefits and in this part of the world, pregnant women are encouraged to eat it because it tonifies the uterus and gets it ready for labor!

If you have ever had this fruit, how would you describe the taste?

Did you know that rice in it’s natural form is brown/ black in color? Making it white is a process that strips it off all its nutrients and fiber!

The interesting thing about this local rice is you get full very quickly!

The famous Cherimoya fruit, also known as custard apple.

This fruit has anticancer benefits, improves eye health, boosts digestion, loaded with anti inflammatory nutrients and is simply delicious.

But did you know that it has the highest amount of vitamin B6 per serving? Without Vitamin B6, we can’t make ANY neurotransmitter and the resulting symptoms includes, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, chronic pain, etc

This nutrient deficiency has become a huge problem in the west and it’s not a surprise that mental health is also declining.
Nutrition plays a huge role in balancing mood and improving mental health.

Today’s breakfast is fresh organic mangoes, handpicked right here on the compound.

In addition to being absolutely delicious, mangoes also have a unique nutrient profile making them a healing superfood.

It is one of very few fruits that contains a compound called mangiferin which decreases inflammation in the heart and blood vessels.
It aids digestion and gut health due to its high fiber content.

I could go on and on, but the point is the Creator has blessed this land with healing foods so let your food be your medicine!

My Sunday is going really well.
Learning about appropriate nutrition for children and how the foods we are feeding our children is harming them in more ways than we know.

You are what you eat, and when it comes to children, they REALLY are what they eat!

Give them a better start in life by feeding them real foods!

Stress LITERALLY kills.
When we don’t manage our stresses properly, the adrenal glands maintains a sustained production of the stress hormone cortisol. This cortisol over time affects gene expression which causes dis-ease in the body. The mutates gene can also be passed down.

Stress affects all body organs and is associated with many illnesses. Becoming aware of this and learning ways to manage stress will go a long way to help nourish the body, mind and spirit.

What are some of your stress management routines?

Peppers…. And then more peppers!
Did you know here were over 600 varieties of peppers?
Not only are they best for adding flavor to food, they also have a lot of health benefits including pain reduction, improving circulation, immune boosting, cholesterol lowering etc

As the colder months are approaching, they are a great spice to add to your meals to warm you up.

Avoid them if they irritate your tummy or if you have ulcers or gastritis.

My current read!
This book is a must read for everyone especially if you live in westernized cultures.
We are all addicted to something that holds us back from our dreams and life’s purpose and this book breaks down how such distractions affect the brain and keep us in a cycle of dependency.
This book also discusses some ways to break out of the cycle and harness dopamine naturally so we don’t need outside agents to make us feel good.

I will like to hear your thoughts if you have read this book.

Cooking with herbs are a great way to add life and flavor to your meals. They accentuate the wonderful tastes of all the other ingredients and add vitality to every bite. They are also a great way to add health value to your meals.
Many of the herbs have anti-inflammatory properties due to their high content of aromatic agents but these 5 are my favorite because they are easier to include in most meals.

Use them fresh or dried!

Let your food be your medicine!

Which fermented foods are your favorite??

Hearty and delicious farro porridge for breakfast the other day.
A friend introduced me to this healthy, nutritious ancient grain and I have been having fun creating delicious new recipes with it.

It is packed full of fiber, protein, vitamins and minerals making it a complete meal on it’s own. It notably has high amounts of Zinc, magnesium, B3 and antioxidants compared to other grains in it’s family.
If you are tired of oatmeal, this is a great alternative!

Here are the ingredients I used for this porridge:
1/4 cup Farro grain
1/2 cup Almond milk
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg
3 drops of vanilla extract
Toped with raisins and pumpkin seeds

Can eat by itself sweetened naturally with fruits or sweeteners like monk fruit and stevia.

Have you ever had this grain?

Delicious and has amazing healing benefits!!!
Your food SHOULD also be your medicine!!!

Fall, a period of tranquility of one’s conduct and a season of letting go.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, autumn is associated with the Metal element and as we see around us, all natural things approach their harvest and completion. Leaves turn vibrant colors, signifying a time where all things begin to conserve and store themselves inside for nourishment.

As evident in nature, it is also true in us. A kind of harvesting and transition happens within us all, harvesting of life experiences and letting go of that which no longer serves us.
This is necessary for spiritual growth and physical wellbeing.

Take advantage of the gift this season offers and begin to let go.

Have a fantabulous week! 🙏🏾 😘
