I've been hearing people say they go to nail salons to get their nails trimmed, here's an FYI:
No, nail salons are generally not permitted to remove ingrown toenails. While they can provide pedicures and may trim the edges of nails, they are not qualified to perform medical procedures like ingrown toenail removal. Ingrown toenails can be painful and may lead to infection, and proper removal requires medical expertise to avoid further complications.
Here's why nail salons shouldn't attempt ingrown toenail removal:
Medical Expertise:
Removing an ingrown toenail often requires more than just trimming. It may involve a partial or complete nail removal, and potentially treating an infection. Podiatrists are trained to handle these situations safely and effectively.
Infection Risk:
Improper removal can introduce bacteria into the nail bed, leading to painful and potentially serious infections.
Complications:
If not treated properly, ingrown toenails can worsen, causing chronic pain and even deformity.
So, salons are good for nail polish, massages, basic filing, but beyond that, BEWARE!
