Quarantine and social distancing are affecting everyone differently. While some are thriving with less energy spent commuting and more quiet time at home, others are now juggling a full-time job and homeschooling their children.
For many, healthy habits have fallen to the bottom of the list when there is so much else to prioritize. Small adjustments can make you feel energized and healthy without having to set aside hours of time.
Here are a few low-commitment healthy habits to add to your day: ::Drinking at least 2 cups of water in the morning before putting anything else in your body. ::Up your veggie intake. Being at home all day makes me a grazer and a snacker. Eating a plant-based meal, meaning predominately veggies will keep you feeling full and your blood sugar balanced, leading to less erratic eating habits during the day. ::Make a list of things you’ve been wanting to learn to do for years and have never done. Sewing? Cooking? Piano? Yo-yoing? Write it on a to do list and spend 5 minutes on those things each day. Cross it off your list when you’ve completed this. Celebrate that you have gotten even closer to reaching this goal! Even if it’s small, a sense of accomplishment at a time when the days are feeling monotonous and heavy can have a really positive effect on our moods. ::Spend 5 minutes writing about what’s going on and how you’re feeling. You don’t have to call it journaling if it doesn’t feel right, but writing about this unprecedented time can feel like intentional time spent just focused on YOU and be very interesting to read in 20 years. ::Get outside! Walk, bike, hike, kick the soccer ball. Anything to keep you feeling grounded.
