If you have been looking into tattoo removal, you might have heard the term "frosting" thrown around. What does it mean?

Frosting is considered a positive sign that indicates the laser beam has reacted with the ink in your skin, meaning the fading process has begun!⁣

More specifically, it's carbon dioxide rising to the skin's surface once pigment has been shattered by the laser. It's a totally safe and normal reaction to a tattoo removal treatment.

Should frosting happen at every appointment? Not necessarily. Depending on factors unique to your tattoo, our providers may need to treat at different depths to successfully target your ink. Sometimes a treatment that produces frosting can be too aggressive for a patient's skin type or treatment stage.🙅‍♀️

It's a common misconception to think that frosting means your ink is being instantly removed. This happens in rare cases, but typically your tattoo will look normal again after a few minutes, and the ink will fade over the 8 weeks in between treatments.
