It’s easy to celebrate these two wonderful staff members who have birthdays in July.

Happy 21st to Cat Sullivan, instructor and horse camp director extraordinaire! Happy 23rd to Kristina Wood, horse handler and stable manager with a ready smile every morning.

Thanks for being a special part of our team. 🐎🧲

On July 19&20, Carlisle held a USEF sponsored event as part of our Para-Dressage Center of Excellence programming with Paralympic Coach Shayna Simon. Nine athletes, grades 1-5, from Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia and Tennessee received new tools for improved performance under Shayna’s skillful training.

In addition to lessons, lectures, and test riding opportunities, the group enjoyed a lively dinner at the Nonantum, sharing ideas with one another, acting as “living letters”, and meeting the Northeastern University bioengineering research cohort working on creating an electronic device for blind and visually impaired riders to navigate the dressage arena.

Thank you to USEF for making this educational clinic possible. Thank you to the athletes for participating so fully, to Shayna for her motivational coaching, and to the Carlisle staff and horses for working generously for the cause.

Fern, the favorite barn cat of 15 years, passed over this weekend. She loved all her people indiscriminately and lived each day in her dignified way. She made a point of visiting parents during their children’s lessons, bestowing her calm with a roaring purr. A queen who could mouse with the best of them yet never yield her spot in the dinner line up. She was one of the farm angels, watching over us now, and will be missed dearly. 💔💔

Yesterday we enjoyed a visit with Mackenzie Leggett who returns each summer to ride with us for a few weeks while in Maine.

She recently participated in a regional competition where she won several medals with her home team at Thorncroft Equestrian Center, a fellow USEF Para-Dressage Center of Excellence in PA. Congratulations Mackenzie! 🐎

Thank you Jonathan and daughter Lela for dropping off more flowers and for donating vegetables to the giving garden. Tibbets Family Farm in Lyman started all of our plants this spring and has been an invaluable partner in our horticultural projects!

Each season one of our highlights is welcoming new interns for field study and career exploration. Today we celebrate Josh Vaughan, an OT graduate student from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, who finished his 12-week clinical rotation with OT mentors Jamie Viola, OTR/L and Katrina Vallario, OTR/L.

Josh brought curiosity and enthusiasm to all that he encountered in equine and nature-based occupational therapy on the farm, and he will be a wonderful asset wherever he ventures next. Safe travels Josh!

Daniel Olley-Williams, Grade 3 para-dressage rider, had a debut ride on former Paralympic horse Clarc with coach Sarah Armentrout this past week. They had a lovely connection from the start!

Clarc was able to show off his Carlisle schoolmaster skills and give Daniel that “next-level” experience, making his former owners and donors Bea, Elizabeth, and Nicholas de Lavalette very proud. A true gift for all. ❤️🐎
