After consistently finding herself in spaces not designed for folks who looked like, sounded like, or had experiences like her, she decided her existence wasn’t radical or rare and didn’t need to be tokenized or criticized. Instead, she found the intersection of her identities should be celebrated, centered and always put first; through her own life experience she learned that healing is achieved once you are able to show up as your most authentic self, thus… Healing In Authenticity was born. With centering the needs of Black people, POC folks and LGBTQ communities, HIA strives to provide accessible therapy services to clients who seek person-centered, trauma informed therapy. We remove societal expectations in our spaces, therefore this isn’t your typical, old-school “by the book” therapy. We don’t approach therapy with values and beliefs rooted in white supremacy, sexism, capitalism, homo/ transphobia, and instead HIA centers a client’s desire to affirm their true selves. We show up as we are, we give what we can, and most of all… we are ourselves. It’s healing in the most affirming way. HIA provides community workshops and corporate trainings on topics such as:
racial and gender equity
sexual and domestic/dating violence awareness and education
mental health in communities of color
HIA produces culturally affirming apparel and resources for communities of color. HIA also fundraises to provide resources for those who are financially unable to access services.
