Rion Humphries, our Coordinator, presented alongside Chrissy Hood from Family Voices of Tennessee, discussing parent advocacy at the 2025 Family and Youth Conference.

The highlight was showcasing the collaborative work with YOU People First of Tennessee members, through which we have collectively heard numerous experiences of individuals with disabilities in our meetings.

We aim to continue amplifying the voices of our community, one group at a time. 🎉

We will be interviewing, Faith McGrath!
Message us for the link.

“Hi everyone! My name is Faith McGrath and I am from Newport Beach California! I’m 24 years old and a fun fact about me is that I was born with a physical hand an arm disability called Radial Dysplasia. I am an actor and advocate who is passionate about advocating for diversity representation in the entertainment industry.

Aside from acting and advocacy, I love connecting with people and sharing my story and life experiences to be a voice and encouragement for those who may be afraid to follow their heart’s desires because someone told them that they aren’t good enough.

When I’m not working you can find me exploring new restaurants, watching a good movie, or just hanging out with my friends and family. I’m always eager to collaborate on projects and help spark conversations that challenge stereotypes and create a space for stories that deserve to be heard so please don’t hesitate to reach out!”

We love to see us involved in the conversation! Thanks for sharing Family Voices of Tennessee.

“Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down” - President Bush.

Happy ADA Day! People First!

The 3,000 people there, and many before and after them, have made a difference.

The ADA was last updated in 2009, and our world has changed drastically since 1990 and 2009.

We celebrate this day and you!

We acknowledge that our world needs to do more for a population that anyone can join at any time.

Here's to honoring those before us and fighting for those after us.

We need you, People First!
Without powerful self advocates like you, change would never have been made.
Change continues to be made because of you! Your voice!

Let's keep that work alive! They will listen. The ADA is proof of that.

Brandon Vera is a disabled creative and advocate with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. As a multi-passionate professional—spanning digital marketing, nonprofit consulting, and music production under the artist name BRNDN DYLN—he channels his work into building inclusion in a world that often excludes. Through candid conversations on dating with a disability, Brandon uses social media to explore the intersections of nuanced identities and spark dialogue. He’s ultimately driven by one mission: when the world doesn’t recognize our gifts, we must create our own opportunities and spaces to show the impact we’ve always carried within us.

Tomorrow (6/17) we are so excited to welcome Chrissy Hood to People First at
3 p.m. central.
Message us for the link.

If you’re in Tennessee we bet you’ve heard of her or benefited from her advocacy.
She is making waves in the disability community.

Chrissy Hood is the mother of 3 daughters including her youngest adult daughter, Alaina, who has cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, and complex medical needs, all resulting from a rare genetic condition known as Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. Through her journey with Alaina, Chrissy has learned to celebrate every success, big or small, and to find joy in life’s little moments.

Alaina’s challenges have been the driving force behind Chrissy’s advocacy efforts, particularly around adult changing tables in Tennessee, and have sparked a deep interest in augmentative and alternative communication. Chrissy is passionate about supporting families and helping them find the resources they need along their journey. She deeply values how Family Voices connects parents with lived experiences to families in need of support. There is something powerful about having someone come alongside you and offer support where you are in your journey.

As the Peer Support Coordinator at Family Voices of Tennessee, Chrissy is excited to continue walking with families, offering guidance, and helping them connect with the resources they need.
