La Rhonda Thomas has been a steady presence at the Dallas VA Medical Center for nearly 28 years, working as an infectious disease scheduling clerk. What she values most about her role is connecting with Veterans and hearing their diverse stories and backgrounds.

“I like meeting different Veterans—you hear all these different stories,” Thomas said. “That’s what I like, engaging with them and their interests.”

Her message to Veterans visiting the Dallas VA: “Be patient. Sometimes clinics run behind, but if you can be patient, you will be seen.”

At the Dallas VA Medical Center, Landen Lake has spent the past two years crafting custom prosthetic legs for Veterans—work she calls “prosthetics in its purest form.” Unbound by insurance approvals, she takes pride in giving Veterans exactly what they need, when they need it. “We can give legs—however many—without waiting for insurance,” she says. “I get a lot out of being able to work with you.” Her message to those she serves is simple and heartfelt: “Thank you for all that you do and all that you have done.”
