Overcoming Social Isolation:

Many children with disabilities may feel left out or misunderstood, leading to social isolation.

Some signs to watch for include:
-Avoiding group activities
-Difficulty making or keeping friends
-Increased anxiety or withdrawal
-Lack of eye contact or limited communication

These feelings can affect confidence and emotional well-being, but building connections in safe, supportive spaces can make a real difference.

How to help your child:
-Encourage small group activities to build comfort
-Practice social skills through play and role-modeling
-Celebrate every effort, no matter how small
-Create routines that include social interaction

No child should face these challenges alone.

Our inclusive groups can help your child practice social skills, build friendships, and gain confidence — growing stronger together, one step at a time.

Our counseling services can help your child manage anxiety, express emotions, and build resilience in a supportive and understanding environment.

Therapy Tip Tuesday: Mealtime Communication 🍽️

Working on communication isn’t just for therapy sessions — some of the best practice happens during everyday routines like mealtime.

No matter how your child communicates (words, sounds, eye gaze, signs, pictures, or an AAC device), here are some easy, go-to tips you can try today:

✅ Offer choices: “Carrots or crackers?” Use real snacks or pictures to help them decide.
✅ Pause and wait: Give your child a few seconds (5–10) to respond. It helps with the natural back-and-forth of conversation and gives them time to think.
✅ Expand & model: When your child says or signs something like “more,” reply with a slightly longer phrase, like “More juice, please.” It helps build their vocabulary naturally.

Try these at your next meal and see how they work! And feel free to share this with a fellow caregiver or teacher who might find it useful.

🥉 Dayna Crees: Strength Beyond Spastic Paraplegia

Dayna Crees was born with hereditary spastic paraplegia, a condition that causes muscle weakness and stiffness in her legs. Growing up, she dealt with constant bullying and major challenges to her mental health. It was tough. But she kept pushing. At her very first Paralympic Games, Dayna not only competed — she threw a personal best in javelin and brought home the bronze medal.

Spastic paraplegia is part of her story, but it never defined her. Dayna’s proof that strength comes from within.

🎉 Weekend Win!

One of our amazing 10-year-olds with cerebral palsy reached a huge milestone this week—he can now transfer in and out of his wheelchair independently and walked on the treadmill for a full 7 minutes without losing his balance!

With the help of the SoloStep harness, he’s been able to safely build confidence, strength, and balance while working on standing and walking—free from the fear of falling.

His progress in endurance and independence has been truly inspiring. We’re so proud of how far he’s come! 🦽

If you have questions about your child’s mobility or motor development, our therapists are here to support you every step of the way.
