Do you know your homocysteine levels? Homocysteine is an amino acid that plays a key role in methylation, a vital process for DNA repair, detoxification, and overall cellular health. Elevated homocysteine levels can be linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, inflammation, and difficulty detoxifying.
Factors like nutrient deficiencies (B12, folate, B6, etc) can impact how well your body manages homocysteine. A SNP in the MTHFR gene can impact how your body methylates B vitamins and can lead to high homocysteine. If your homocysteine is high despite having good levels of B vitamins, you may not be methylating them well and need to supplement with an “activated” methyl-B formulation in order to have better energy!
Ways to optimize your homocysteine levels:
✔️ Ensure adequate intake of methylated B12, folate, and B6
✔️ Eat a balanced diet rich in leafy greens, eggs, and whole grains
✔️ Get your homocysteine levels tested to understand your methylation status
Interested in learning more about methylation, homocysteine, and how to optimize your health? Join Golden Road Medicine’s Metabolic Health Optimization Group Course, starting this February! The live course starts February 13th and runs for 5 weeks. Labs can be drawn anytime in February. Take charge of your health journey with personalized strategies and expert guidance.

Feeling tired and sluggish all the time? 💤 Sub-optimal Vitamin B12 levels might be the cause! Vitamin B12 is essential for energy production, brain health, and red blood cell formation. When levels are low, you may experience fatigue, weakness, difficulty concentrating, or even tingling in the hands and feet.
Here are some potential ways to optimize your B12 levels:
✔️ Include B12-rich foods like red meat, organ meat, eggs, dairy, and fish
✔️ Get your B12 levels tested, especially if you follow a plant-based diet or have conditions that affect absorption, like IBS or gastritis.
Want to dive deeper into optimizing your metabolic health, including addressing potential nutrient deficiencies like B12? Join Golden Road Medicine’s Metabolic Health Optimization Group Course, starting live February 13th meeting weekly for 5 weeks.! 💡 Discover personalized strategies to feel your best and reclaim your energy.

Did you know that insulin resistance can make losing weight and reducing belly fat significantly harder? 🤔 Insulin resistance occurs when your body’s cells stop responding effectively to insulin, leading to higher blood sugar levels and potential weight gain. Identifying this early through fasting insulin tests can help uncover the root causes and guide you toward better health strategies.
The good news is there are steps you can take to decrease insulin resistance! These include:
✔️ Reducing added sugars and refined carbs in your diet
✔️ Incorporating regular physical activity, especially strength training and aerobic exercise
✔️ Managing stress through mindfulness or relaxation techniques
✔️ Prioritizing quality sleep each night
✔️ Including healthy fats and fiber-rich foods in your meals
At Golden Road Medicine, we’re launching a Metabolic Health Optimization Group Course this February! 🎉 Join us to learn more about insulin resistance, metabolic health, and how to personalize your health journey for lasting results. 💡💪

When it comes to monitoring metabolic health, A1C stands out as a key biomarker, often providing a clearer picture of yo...
27/01/2025

When it comes to monitoring metabolic health, A1C stands out as a key biomarker, often providing a clearer picture of your long-term blood sugar levels than a single fasting glucose test. Here’s why A1C matters and why it’s more accurate for assessing your risk of diabetes and pre-diabetes:
🔑 What is A1C?
A1C measures the average blood glucose levels over the past 2-3 months by assessing the percentage of glycated hemoglobin in your blood.
Unlike fasting glucose, which only captures a snapshot of your blood sugar at one moment, A1C reflects a long-term trend in how your body manages glucose.
📈 Why is A1C More Accurate?
Captures Long-Term Trends: Fasting glucose can fluctuate daily due to diet, stress, or sleep, but A1C offers a more stable, comprehensive insight.
Early Detection of Pre-Diabetes: A1C can help identify individuals at risk by revealing glucose trends that a single fasting test might miss.
Pre-diabetes is defined as an A1C of 5.7% to 6.4%, signaling impaired glucose regulation and an opportunity to intervene before diabetes develops.
Convenience: No fasting required—A1C testing is straightforward and can be done at any time of day.
💡 Why Does It Matter?
High A1C levels indicate prolonged exposure to elevated blood sugar, increasing the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and nerve damage.
By addressing elevated A1C levels early—through lifestyle changes or medical management—you can significantly reduce these risks.
🥗 Pre-Diabetes: A Wake-Up Call
Pre-diabetes affects 1 in 3 adults, many of whom don’t know they have it.
The good news? Small changes in diet, exercise, and weight management can bring your A1C back into a healthy range, preventing or delaying the onset of diabetes.
✨ Takeaway: A1C is more than just a number; it’s a tool for understanding your overall metabolic health. Stay proactive—check your A1C regularly and make changes early to keep your blood sugar in check!
📊 Target A1C Levels:
Normal: Below 5.7%
Pre-Diabetes: 5.7%–6.4%
Diabetes: 6.5% or higher

🩸 Spotlight on Hemoglobin A1c: Your Blood Sugar Snapshot 🩸
What is Hemoglobin A1c?
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a critical biomarker that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It’s a simple yet powerful way to understand how your body is managing glucose, which directly affects your energy, metabolism, and overall health.

📊 What Do Your A1c Levels Mean?
• Below 5.7%: Normal ✅
• 5.7% - 6.4%: Pre-diabetes ⚠️
• 6.5% or higher: Diabetes ❗

🚩 High A1c levels can lead to:
• Fatigue and low energy 😴
• Increased risk of heart disease ❤️
• Nerve damage and other complications 🔥

✨ How to Lower Your A1c Naturally:
1️⃣ Eat a balanced diet rich in whole foods 🥗
2️⃣ Stay active with regular exercise 🏋️‍♀️
3️⃣ Manage stress and get quality sleep 😌
4️⃣ Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly 📉

💡 Why It’s Important to Know Your A1c:
Your A1c level is a key indicator of your metabolic health. Whether you’re looking to prevent diabetes or optimize your energy, understanding this number is crucial for making informed decisions about your lifestyle and health.
