I went to a protest last week with my wonderful friend Susan. I joined her at the last minute and didn’t have time to make a pretty sign, but I had a little poster board and a stick, so I jotted down exactly how I felt — and later —when I got home, I posted a pic.
A lot of people said they wished they could have the text on a t-shirt, so in my essay this week I asked if anyone I knew had a t-shirt company. Extra credit if it was a woman-owned small business. Extra *extra* credit if they wanted to make the proceeds go to the ACLU (always doing incredible work to fight this administration, stand up for our immigrant community, and do everything possible to defend the rights afforded to all people under the Constitution), and The National Q***r and Trans Therapists of Color Network
If you are not familiar with them, they “sit at the intersection of the mental health field and movements for social justice.” They are doing such beautiful and important work.
To my utter delight, Wyrd Shirts appeared like a social justice superhero and made my t-shirt dreams come true. Not only that, she is donating 100% of the proceeds after cost to these two incredible organizations. I am not taking anything except the joy of raising money and awareness for some of the helpers out there. The helpers are hurting y’all. If you haven’t found a way to pitch in, maybe start with a t-shirt and go from there. She has other awesome designs and great causes up on her site.
There are two different styles, one for each of the organizations. For any men cool enough to wear these, look under women’s sizes in “Unisex”
Love y’all very much. Stay safe out there, and remember,
“Only the people can save the people.”
